Heartworm awareness month
Pictured below is a live, immature heartworm (microfilariae) seen today in a dog’s blood smear. For Heartworm Awareness month, we would like to discuss heartworm disease. We have been treating several dogs just this month. 🐾 🩺
🦟 Heartworm disease is transmitted through mosquito bites and can lead to severe damage to the heart, lungs, and other organs. We see it frequently on the Eastern shore due to the copious mosquitoes. But the good news is that it’s preventable! 🙌
Here are some key steps to protect your pets:
1️⃣ Get them tested for heartworms annually with a 4DX. Early detection is crucial for timely treatment.
2️⃣ Administer a monthly chewable heartworm preventive medication such as Sentinel or Heartguard. We also offer Proheart 12, a yearly injection to prevent heartworm disease.

When fire safety is too much fun 🤣🧯 We are now a little afraid we might lose one of our Pet Spa groomers, Mary Morse, to a life of fire fighting! Thanks again to Wachapreague Volunteer Fire Company Inc. for coming out yesterday to teach us how to use a fire extinguisher properly. Hopefully, they had as much fun as we did.
