Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original release of The Lego Movie by attending a free, family night out at Harper College. He finds himself drafted into a fellowship of strangers who are on a mission to stop an evil tyrant's (Will Ferrell) plans to conquer the world. Unfortunately for Emmet, he is hopelessly -- and hilariously -- unprepared for such a task, but he'll give it his all nonetheless” (Google). Warner Bros. Pictures, 2014. This month's book is The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens. A school assignment finds college student Joe Talbert interviewing a convicted murderer who is living out his final days in a nursing home. Through his interactions with the Vietnam veteran, Joe senses something amiss and decides to investigate – stumbling upon a thirty-year-old cold case. The action and suspense are balanced by Joe’s personal relationships and his sympathetic nature. Likeable characters and a compelling plot make for an incredibly good story.
Meet with others who share a passion for reading and learning. Book discussions are sponsored by the Harper College Library and are facilitated by Harper College Library librarians and staff. Please contact Christine Kuffel [email protected] to register, or call 847.925.6859.

Happy Flag Day!
Did you know that this holiday has local origins? Back in 1885, a schoolteacher in Waubeka, Wisconsin (just north of Milwaukee) encouraged his students to celebrate June 14th as "Flag Birthday". Bernard Cigrand asked his class to write essays about what the flag meant to them. His own essay on the topic was later published in a Chicago newspaper.
Cigrand chose June 14th to honor the date in 1777, when the Continental Congress decided upon the appearance of the nation's banner: "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” Read the full story at https://apnews.com/article/flag-day-origin-wisconsin-6afcfece1f0e98ed7150a6c56b829ebf
In 1916 Pres. Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 as the official date for Flag Day, and in 1949 the U.S. Congress permanently established the date as National Flag Day.
