In March, the first full week recognizes Dental Assistant Recognition Week (also known as DARW). Dental assistants are a key part of the dental practice year-round, but they get a special week dedicated to them.
A century ago when dentists first started using assistants, they were called “ladies in attendance.”
There are more than 300,000 Dental Assistants in the United States. We appreciate you 💜
The microbiome in our mouths contain bacteria that feed on carbohydrates like simple sugars, producing an acidic waste product as a result. When sugars attach to the teeth, these bacteria get to work quickly, dissolving enamel and causing decay. This can, over time, lead to cavities, tooth infection, and increased risks for gum disease. Those issues can, by turns, result in chronic bad breath, persistent discomfort, tooth loss, and increased risk for serious systemic diseases and illnesses.
The good news is, tooth decay, infection, and gum disease are preventable. Simply:
🪥Reduce your intake of sugary foods and beverages
🪥 Brush your teeth after every meal and snack*
🪥Floss before you brush your teeth both morning and night
🪥 Visit our office every six months for cleanings and examinations
Call us today for an exam! We care about your gum health.
While sugar makes food taste great, it can cause serious tooth decay. Bacteria, or sometimes called “sugar bugs,” love sugar just as much as we do! These bugs feed on sugar and produce plaque and acid, which jeopardizes the integrity of tooth enamel.
There are typically 10-12 teaspoons of sugar in just one can of soda.
On average, 78% of Americans develop a cavity by age 17.
Between 60-90% of children will experience tooth decay.
While tooth enamel is the hardest substance in your body, bacteria can damage it.

An active ingredient in certain toothpastes named Stannous Fluoride may just be your saving grace!
Stannous fluoride can help reduce cavities, prevent tooth sensitivity, fight gingivitis, AND repair early stages of tooth decay!
With daily brushing (at least twice a day), Stannous fluoride will start working in as little as 2 weeks!
Brands such as Crest Pro and Sensodyne have Stannous fluoride as their active ingredient!
