The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office is hosting a behind-the-scenes tour of the election facility, which is open to the public. If you have ever wondered how our elections are handled, this would be a great opportunity to learn firsthand.

This is definitely a phishing attempt. The banner is straight from the Illinois driver's license office website but it doesn't seem quite right. Let's count the ways to tell:
1) Sent by mandy[@]jonesfabmachine[.]com. This is definitely not an official State of Illinois email address. I received a second, identical email at the same time from nick[@]deercreekvillagerealty[.]com. These are likely legitimate email addresses which have been hacked or are being cloned.
2) It was sent on June 3, 2021 with a deadline to respond of May 25, 2021. This is likely to cause a sense of urgency and prevent you from thinking it through, or it's just a mistake because some phishers are sloppy.
3) I do not live in Illinois and do not have an Illinois driver's license.
4) The email does not contain my name or any other identifiable information to show that the sender knew who it was being sent to.
5) How did the driver's license office get my email address? Most government agencies do not use email to communicate important information.
6) If you hover your mouse over the link that says "Verify Information" you will see that it isn't taking you to the Illinois driver's license website, it is taking you to a website with a root of firebasestorage[.]googleapis. This can make it look like the phishing is sponsored or approved by Google, but this is simply a development tool for cloud based apps being used nefariously.
7) There are some minor typos, which is common in these emails.

One funny thing is that the customer service number is the correct phone number for the Illinois driver's license office so the old technique of verifying that the email is legit with a phone call would have worked in this case. The phone number is often spoofed or fake though so you should always look it up with an independent search before relying on it. If you receive an email you weren't expecting, regardless of how official it looks, do an independent verification before sharing your personal information.
