Nutritional, Fitness, Mindset and Success Coaching
My grandmother Betty was my first holistic nutritionist. I hated anything healthy when I was a kid, but little did she know the seeds she was planting would bloom beautifully one day.
When you discover the key to feeling good in your own skin every day, you want to share it! The outside/physical follows suit to the inside/mental. When we heal our cells, we heal our whole life. You deserve to feel AND look good!

Like the tomato, Ashwaganda bears yellow flowers and red fruit, though the fruit is berrylike in size and shape. Ashwaganda grows prolifically in Indiana, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. All parts of the plant are used in herbal medicine.
Ashwaganda has been used for more than 2500 years as a "vitalizer". It is rejuvenating, balancing, strengthening, qnd calming to the nervous system. W&W Wellness Plant Power Spotlight:
CINNAMON!
Cinnamon is a spice and probably my favorite one. It is native to the Caribbean, South America, and South East Asia. You can get it in a powder or whole peices of bark (usually shaped like a stick). Also used in essential oils and supplements.
There are two types of cinnamon: Ceylon and Cassia. Interestingly, they have two different nutrient profiles! Go for Ceylon whenever possible.
Several studies conducted on cinnamon show that it is has several benefits and uses:
*Lowers the effects of a high fat meal.
In 2011, researchers concluded that diets rich in “antioxidant spices,” including cinnamon, may help reduce the body’s negative response to eating high fat meals. Six people consumed dishes containing 14 g of a spice blend. Blood tests showed that antioxidant activity increased by 13%, insulin response fell by 21%, and triglycerides fell by 31%.
*Improves fungal infections.
A 2016 laboratory study found that cinnamon oil was effective against a type of Candida that affects the bloodstream. This may be due to its antimicrobial properties.
*Influences blood sugar levels.
A 2015 review noted that after 60 people with type 2 diabetes consumed up to 6 grams (g) of cinnamon per day for between 40 days and 4 months, they had lower serum glucose, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and total cholesterol.
*Prevents Alzheimer's disease.
According to researchers, an extract present in cinnamon bark, called CEppt, contains properties that may prevent symptoms from developing.
*Protects against HIV.
In 2000, a study of extracts of Indian medicinal plants found that cinnamon may help protect against HIV. Scientists tested 69 extracts in a laboratory. Cinnamomum cassia, or cinnamon bark, and Cardiospermum helicacabum, which is the cinnamon shoot and fruit, were most effective in reducing HIV activity. In a 2016 laboratory study, scientists found that an extract from cinnamon showed anti-HIV activity. This does not mean that foods containing cinnamon can treat or prevent HIV, but cinnamon extracts could one day become a part of HIV
*Prevents multiple sclerosis
Experts have tested cinnamon for activity against multiple sclerosis (MS). In one study, It appeared that cinnamon could have an anti-inflammatory effect on the central nervous system, including parts of the brain. Studies have also suggested that cinnamon may protect regulatory T cells, or “Tregs,” which regulate immune responses.
*Treating or healing chronic wounds
Research from 2015 says that scientists have found a way to package antimicrobial compounds from peppermint and cinnamon into tiny capsules that can both kill bacterial biofilms and actively promote healing. In this way, peppermint and cinnamon could become part of a medicine for treating infected wounds.
*Reduces risk of Cardiovascular disease
Various compounds in cinnamon may benefit the cardiovascular system. Cinnemaldehyde, for example, lowered blood pressure in a study.
*Prevents Cancer
In the study, scientists treated cancer using an extract of cinnamon and cardamom. Tests found lower levels of oxidative stress in the melanoma cells.
*Additional Benefits
Some people use cinnamon supplements to treat digestive issues, diabetes, loss of appetite, and other conditions. It also plays a role in traditional medicine for treating bronchitis.
Cinnamon is safe for most people but consult your doctor/health professional if you have liver conditions or take prescription drugs. It is not, by itself, a full replacement for medical treatments or health conditions. Make sure you are getting a well rounded amount of nutrients, vitamins and minerals for best results.

Nut Butter Banana Bites
I made these yesterday & they were yummy!
& only 4 ingredients:
- Banana
- Nut Butter (I made half my batch peanut butter and the other half almond butter)
- Isadelight Chocolate
- Coconut Oil
What I did:
1: Pealed & sliced bananas.
2: Lined a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3: Placed a little bit of nut butter on a banana slice and topped with another banana slice to make a little sandwhich. Keep doing this and place in freezer for around an hour.
4: Melt your chocolate by adding chocolate & coconut oil in the same boil: you can do this in the microwave (on 30 sec, mix, on for 30 sec, mix, repeat til ready) but since I don’t own a microwave, I did it on the stove (boiled hot water in a big pot, then had a separate bowl I placed over the hot water to help melt the chocolate & coconut oil mix without burning it)
5. Once the chocolate is melted, remove banana sandwhiches from freezer. Dip into chocolate.
6. Place back into freezer for 15 mins.
7. At this point you’re ready to enjoy. Should be able to store these little babies for 1-2 months in the freezer, before eating one maybe let them thaw out for a bit but I ate them frozen & they were yummy!
shout out to the lovely Tanguay Paschal !
I love celebrating my team members working hard and killin it.
We all know that the # on the scale doesn't tell you how healthy a person is but everyone has different goals. This is one of her individual goals but she told me from the start she cares more about her health improving than the scale(how it should be).
She excitedly told me she has reached her first mini goal of 10 lbs lost. More importantly: she feels better, faster, stronger and has more energy. She trains with me twice a week and we have started working on her nutritional habits too(BIG part of the puzzle. You cannot out train a bad diet).
T always shows up for herself and tries her best which inspires me as a coach. I can't wait to see her smash some more goals but let's celebrate the journey and ourselves as we are right now because that's really what its all about! 🎉💯💖
WEIRD AND WONDERFUL HERB SPOTLIGHT: Echinacea (also known as purple corn flower)
Botanical Name: Echinacea angustifolia
There are dozens and dozens of biochemical compounds that act in therapeutic synergy in this complex plant that supports disease resistance in several ways.
When it comes to colds, sinus, gum inflammation and other infection symptoms: Echinacea works best when taken at the first sign/onset. Echinacea also has a numbing sensation that relieves cold soars.
Echinacea acts against Candida albicans, the microorganism that causes most yeast infection. Echinacea is a mild antiseptic on its own, but when fighting an established virus, combining echinacea with antiseptic herbs such as goldenseal or Oregon grape enhances the effectiveness of the treatment.
A quick and effective way to reduce itching and take the sting out of Insect hives and bites is to apply a few drops of Echinacea tincture or make a skin wash from the fresh flowers.
North American Indians passed the knowledge of the purple coneflower on to the colonists and settlers of North America. Echinacea became a famed remedy for snake bite and for cleansing and healing suppurating wounds.
Nine species of Echinacea grow perennially throughout Midwestern North America from Saskatchewan to as far south as Texas. The three species most used and studied are E.purpurea, E. pallida, and E.angustifolia. They are hard to tell apart, all have pretty purple flowers except for E. paradoxa, whose flowers are yellow.
1. Eating a healthy breakfast is crucial to help Kickstart metabolism, improve cognitive function, and help you make better food choices throughout the day. I recommend this meal to include protein, healthy fat and complex carbs.
2. Not only is starving yourself unhealthy but it often backfires. You are more than likely to indulge at night if you don't eat enough calories during the day. When you focus your efforts on skimping food, you are setting yourself up for an eating binge later on. Even if you don't binge, you not eating enough often delays results.
3. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Menus can be deceiving, even healthy sounding entrees may be loaded with butter or smothered in a heavy sauce. Ask for details on how the meal is prepared, request sauces and dressings on the side, and make sure the server knows you are looking for a simple healthy option.
4. We all know it's a bad idea to go to the store hungry, but that's not the only key to smarter shopping. The biggest mistake people make is not knowing what they need and, instead, browsing the aisles for inspiration. That leads to buying more packaged foods and less fresh, whole foods. Go in with a list based on recipes you intend to cook for the week, and focus your shopping on the store’s perimeter, which is home to the fresh produce, dairy, meat, and fish.
5.Not all packaged or pre-made food is bad for you, but you’ll need to read nutrition labels carefully in order to choose wisely. Ideally, you should gravitate toward healthy options that make nutritious cooking easier, like frozen vegetables and canned beans, and skip the meals in a box that are loaded with preservatives, hidden sources of fat, and too much sugar and sodium. Labels can be confusing so don't hesitate to reach out with questions!
6. Putting down the salt shaker and skipping sugar in your coffee is a step in the right direction, but that’s not where most people get the majority of their salt and sugar. Sodium and sugar are rampant in most packaged foods from pasta sauce and mac and cheese to rice mixes and soups. Start by checking the nutrition label on your breakfast cereal (some pack up to 20 grams of sugar per serving!).
Here’s a quick tip: Divide the amount of sugar in grams by 4 and you get the number of teaspoons. Would you really pour 5 teaspoons of sugar into your cereal bowl?
7. This is a big one and my clients know I speak on this a lot. Not all calories are created equal. When your body is hungry, craving something or even fatigued, it is crying out for NUTRIENTS, not calories. People love those 100 calorie packs but they don't understand that they are getting almost no nutrition in those 100 cals, and is often loaded with sugar, fat or chemicals. The better approach is focusing on healthy, nutrient dense foods that are naturally low in calories but rich in essential vitamins, minerals and fiber.
8. Fill half your plate with vegetables — and, no, French fries don’t count! Choose “crunchy” vegetables, such as broccoli, green beans, asparagus,, and leafy greens like kale and Swiss chard. On the other side of the plate, make sure it is loaded with healthy, lean protein and complex carbs depending on your individual plan.
9. You have heard me mention "complex carbs", these are the GOOD kinds of carbs that your brain needs for fuel. When it comes to carbohydrates, brown is better. Whole-grain foods (like whole wheat, brown rice, and oatmeal) contain more nutrients and fiber than their processed white cousins. Not only are these complex carbohydrates healthier for you (higher fiber intake has been linked to reduced risk of diabetes and heart disease), but they also help keep you full longer. So instead of shunning carbs in an effort to lose weight, start by swapping out the white ones for whole grains.
10. This may sound obvious, but many people think that healthy eating and enjoyment are mutually exclusive. Pretend you never heard the word “diet.”‘ Instead, work toward a lifestyle built on healthy choices that are going to work for the long-term. In order to achieve that goal, find nutritious foods that you enjoy eating. Food should be something you relish and that nourishes you. It is not just fuel.

Grilled shrimp with cilantro-lime brown rice bowls
1 cup cooked brown rice
2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
1/4 fresh lime juice
2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro leaves (optional if you are like me and don't care for cilantro)
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 medium avocado, sliced
1 cup cherry tomatoes, sliced (also not my bag, I replace with red onion)
2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
Sea salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 large corn on the cob
Instructions:
In a large bowl combine the shrimp with garlic, oil, sea salt and pepper.
Preheat grill to medium high heat. Add shrimp and cook, for about 2 min on each side.
Meanwhile, brush avocado and corn with a tiny bit of oil. Add it to the grill and cook flipping once, until charred, only 1-2 min for avocado and 10 min for corn; season with sea salt and pepper to taste. Once cooked, and slightly cooled, cut the corn off the cob.
Divide the cooked rice between two bowls. Add lime juice, salt, pepper and cilantro. Mix to combine.

Health benefits of sea moss:
*It may help you digest food. According to some studies, it can have a prebiotic effect during digestion. This means it can increase beneficial short chain fatty acids, rid the gut of bacteria, improve gut health and immunity.
*It can improve thyroid function. Irish moss is full of different iodine compounds that your thyroid needs to be healthy.
*It will boost immunity as it has potassium iodide, great for dissolving phlegm in clogged airways.
*It may nourish your skin because of its vitamin and mineral packed gelatin-like quality: many people make sea moss masks to soothe eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and burns.
*It could improve emotional health as sea moss has a bunch of magnesium (all my clients know what this is lol) and potassium, which are known mood boosters.
You can buy Sea moss raw or in gelatin form. It is tasteless and you can add it to many dishes and drinks like
-Smoothies
-Juices
-Cakes
-Sauces
-Ice cream
-stews and soups
Let's talk about the connection between our brain and food
Our physiological response to food is determined by the nutrients in that food, but also by many other factors such as our activity levels, our microbiome, genetic makeup, age, potential food intolerances or allergies.
The GI tract is a complex yet well-coordinated system that recognizes, seperates, and selectively absorbs and uses nutrients while protecting us from potentially harmful toxins and pathogens.
After digestion occurs, nutrients must make their way into cells to be useful. For nutrients to be absorbed into the body, they must cross the GI - body barrier.
Many diseases, disorders and intolerances can interfere with these processes. Thus, we need a healthy gastrointestinal tract for optimal digestion, absorption and nutrient delivery.

SPRING CLEAN YOUR HABITS
Do you have some habits you'd like to 'spring clean' from your life? Maybe you don't want to get rid of them, maybe you want to add some. Here are 7 steps to building life-long habits in hopes that in this season of spring cleaning, you begin taking better care of YOU!
1. Focus on ONE habit at a time.
Maybe you'd like to wake up at 5am every day, get a work out in and start eating healthier. Those are all great habits to begin, but it can be overwhelming to start all of those habits at one time. Start slow and choose ONE new habit and a fixed time frame (1 month, for example).
2. Link the new habit to a trigger.
To make it easy to remember your new habit you should schedule it after an existing habit known as a trigger. This way when you have completed your trigger action, you know that you have to do your new habit. This prevents you from putting it off or forgetting about it. For example, if you want to create the habit of eating breakfast everyday you could schedule it after your morning shower.
3. Imagine your long-term reward.
If your new habit is to go running everyday then you may feel discouraged by your aching muscles or by how tired you feel. For high-resistance habits like this you need to constantly remind yourself of your goals. Think of how you'll feel and how your body will look in 60 or 90 days and you'll remember WHY you are sticking with this habit.
4. Start small.
If a habit seems really daunting it is best to start small. If your long-term goal is to go running for 30 minutes each day, your starting habit could be to run for 5 minutes everyday.
5. Make it easy.
In the beginning it is important to remove any resistance from your new habit. If you want to start eating healthy but only have unhealthy snacks at home then sticking to your new habit will be difficult. To make it easier you should make sure to have healthy snacks easily available. Preparation is key!
6. Track your new habit.
Habit trackers are a great way to motivate you to follow through with your new habits. They work both as visual reminders and motivators.
7. Don’t be discouraged by mistakes.
Mistakes. We all make them in the beginning! It is important that you don’t let your mistakes prevent you from continuing with your new habit. If you forget to complete your habit one day, put that behind you and remember your end goal. Messing up one day isn’t going to affect your long-term results but giving up on your habit will.

Wellness Wednesday Spotlight:
BONE BROTH
As you may read about when you do your Bone Broth research, people who’ve used bone broth during a healing crisis can REALLY appreciate its healing powers. However, without this appreciation it’s easy not to be in a bone broth routine, just using it here and there, not understanding how many SUPER POWERS your body gets by consuming it every day.
Bone broth is an extremely important part of our diet that got lost post WWII with many of the shortcuts like MSG, fast foods, etc. Health for Americans has steadily declined since getting away from a staple that kept us healthy for so long (among other things).
Broth is a staple food for millions around the world, amongst most cultures & cuisines, and has been for thousands of years this since humans began to cook animals. Putting the bones of an animal to good use is/was a way to honor the animal by using all its parts and serves as an economical way to feed the community (in impoverished civilizations/war zones/etc bones were boiled over and over and over to get every last drop of nourishment).
TOP BONE BROTH BENEFITS (yes, there are even more than these!)*
Healthy Skin, Hair & Nails:
-Skin that doesn’t get enough collagen gets thinner, weaker, and drier causing wrinkles to form. Drinking collagen and absorbing it through the gut is the best way to get collagen-building tools into the cells.
-When using a steady bone broth routine, you can avoid hair loss and weak, brittle nails. Collagen surrounds the hair so when we produce less of it (and don’t get enough supplementally) our hair is more vulnerable to breaking.
-Nails are made of protein so the amino acids found in broth help to strengthen them.
Fights Cold & Infections:
-Glutamine found in bone broth supports the growth of all kinds of cells, including those needed by our immune systems. Cartilage found in bones also plays a role in boosting the immune system when needed by increasing white blood cells’ ability to kill bacteria, viruses and anything our body doesn’t want.
Builds A Healthy Gut:
-Collagen is a major structural element of the gut and is one of the best things that can be consumed to heal and seal a leaky gut (this is where there are actual tears in the stomach lining causing ALL SORTS of problems including the inability to properly absorb nutrients).
-Glutamine found in broth effectively plugs the holes in the lining of the digestive tract preventing further damage.
-Gelatin in broth boosts the ability to digest food. In the gut, gelatin draws water and stomach acid towards the food that’s being digested, so nutrients are broken down and absorbed more effectively without taxing the digestive system.
-Broth is soothing and extremely helpful to those with food sensitivities and/or weak digestion.
-Lesson #1 for anyone practicing a gut healing program (there are lots of them for all kinds of diagnosis) is bone broth.
-Research has shown that collagen improves digestion, transports easily digestible nutrients from cartilage and tendons called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) that can improve joint health and contains minerals in a form the body can easily absorb. They also discovered it helps the body assimilate protein, so a little meat can go a long way in a well made nutrient-dense bone broth.
Stabilizes Mood:
-Contributing to good gut health creates a more positive gut + brain connection. Poor gut health = poor mood. Gelatin/collagen can help protect the gut like nothing else.
Encourages Relaxation:
-There’s nothing more calming, soothing or nostalgic that sipping on a warm cup of bone broth anytime of day or year.
-Glycine (amino acid) from gelatin can calm the mind (it curbs the buzzing activity of neurotransmitters in the brain which could help promote better sleep). It’s great to have a cup before bed!
-A Japanese study found that a dose of glycine before bed can improve quality of sleep and reduce daytime sleepiness.
Promotes Healthy Bones:
-Bone broth contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and other trace minerals needed for bone growth and repair. These nutrients leach from the bones into broth and while they’re not in huge amounts they’re very bio available and when consumed consistently the benefit compounds.
-With proper amounts of collagen in the body a person can avoid osteoporosis which is caused by brittle bones.
Supports Natural Detoxing:
-Glutathione, known the mother of all antioxidants, is found abundantly in bone broth. It’s good for antiaging, fighting chronic disease and detoxifying the liver. Glycine from broth helps our bodies produce more glutathione on its own.
Reduces Joint Pain & Inflammation:
-People are struggling with stiff, achy joints, tendonitis, osteoarthritis in their knees, hips, hands etc. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, both found in cartilage from bones, are key to rebuilding connective tissue in joints, ligaments and tendons. Broths made from cartilage rich bones can help your body make more connective tissue and ease joint pain naturally.
-The best bones are from Grass Fed Cows because of its joint soothing omega 3 and CLA content. These can reduce inflammation over the body and ease the symptoms of certain inflammatory conditions (especially glycine and proline)
Encourages Speedy Recovery & Hydrates:
-In the world of sports and professional athletes, bone broth is often seen as a recovery meal (I personally have a cup every time I finish a workout).
-Bone Broth is packed with electrolytes and is extremely effective for hydrating the body
Fun Fact: Kobe Bryant swears by bone broth and used it with every pregame meal. Both he and his coaches say it played a primary role in his ability to heal a slew of what could have been career ending injuries.
Hopefully by now you’re ALL IN with bone broth and will either start making it at home for yourself, or I could help you pre-order some from Isagenix so you can be the first to have it when it’s launched.
What’s so unique to bone broth is that with it’s endless benefits, you’ll see improvements you don’t even know you need.
I hope this helps to answer some of your questions about this elixir and why it’s so special!
h it!
