The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced more than $325 million in funding for 21 projects aimed at addressing environmental and climate justice issues in disadvantaged communities.

Raleigh Office Managing Partner Bob Wilson presented "A Discussion on Sustainable Rural Healthcare in North Carolina" at the 2024 North Carolina Healthcare Association Summer Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.

The session provided an update on the Rural Healthcare Initiative (RHI) North Carolina rural healthcare sustainability plan funded by the General Assembly, including quantitative and qualitative results that will help with strategic and tactical decision-making regarding healthcare access issues in rural North Carolina communities.

We have had so many heroes this past year. The individuals who fought tirelessly for the library will always be champions in our eyes. We would like to thank one of those people. Marc Williams is the managing partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in downtown Huntington. He came to us last year when we were knocked down and offered his legal expertise pro bono. He and his entire team worked tirelessly for the parks and libraries. They were there for every meeting, phone call, court hearing, and any bump in the road that came along. In all of our highs and lows, Marc was there for us. When he first talked to our Director Breana, he talked about his love of reading and how literacy was so important to his mother. Reading is a big part of his story and has shaped who he is. There is absolutely no way we would have gotten through the past year without Marc. She was named co-chair of the Minority Trial Lawyers Committee and the 2024 Professional Success Summit for the 2024-2025 year.

"The ABA Litigation Section has entrusted Amy to lead the planning of the Professional Success Summit, one of our most important conferences of the bar year. Attorneys and summer associates from Nelson Mullins' Charleston office participated in a ramp build with Operation Home, a local nonprofit that serves more than 1,000 families and individuals with critical home repair, wheelchair ramps, and heat and cold relief programs.

The ramp was built for a 16-year-old boy who was recently paralyzed in a car accident. He can now come and go from his house safely and independently!

Nelson Mullins celebrates Juneteenth as it commemorates the end of enslavement and the official emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. The BRIDGE-Together Affinity Group at Nelson Mullins encourages everyone to educate themselves about the history of Juneteenth, the history of this nation, and to remind ourselves how our history continues to shape and inform our present. Juneteenth is an opportunity to celebrate FREEDOM from enslavement and to reflect, especially as lawyers, on the importance of giving true meaning to the words liberty, justice, freedom, and equality.

The Nelson Mullins Washington D.C. office hosted a New England Council breakfast with Massachusetts Congressman Steve Lynch. Congressman Lynch talked about the upcoming elections, highlighted Biden Administration accomplishments (Infrastructure Bill, CHIPS Act, ARPA-H, IRA) benefiting Massachusetts and the country, and stressed the importance of collaboration and bipartisanship in Congress.

Nelson Mullins was among the 40 law firms honored with the 2024 Beacon of Justice Award from The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) at last week's annual gala in Washington, D.C.

Partner Katherine A. Lawler and associate Andrea Olsen-Leyden accepted on behalf of the firm, which was recognized for pro bono work to advance human and civil rights in 2023.
