Happy 4th of July from all of us at Palm Coast Hearing Center🇺🇸
Today and everyday is a day for GRATITUDE! We recently received this testimonial from Richard, who has begun the process of addressing his with our Audiologist, Dr. Indira Alvarez, at Ormond Hearing Center. Please keep in mind we can assist you by telehealth from anywhere in the State of Florida for tinnitus treatment as well.
"I experienced severe tinnitus shortly after having the second MRNA vaccine. As it became increasingly intolerable, I sought treatment at the Mayo Clinic. They indicated they could not surgically help me but could refer me to the top audiologist in Florida for help. They sent me to Dr. Indira Alvarez at the Ormond Hearing Center. I asked if there was someone closer to where I live. The neuro-ENT asked me if I wanted someone closer or if I wanted the best. I decided the incremental travel time was very worthwhile. The Mayo Clinic is among the top medical centers in the world (if not the top) and their service and referrals are top-notch. Dr. Alvarez is professional, kind, patient and provides a very atypical medical experience. She did not keep me waiting. I showed up on time, and she saw me within minutes. We spent an hour discussing my tinnitus and how we could reduce its impact in my life. She answered every question and demonstrated the knowledge and expertise that provided me confidence that my situation could be helped. I have been under her medical care for addressing tinnitus for three weeks and already have found things to be improving as I have followed her recommendations across the board. My follow-up appointment was similar to the first. Dr. Alvarez was on time and did not rush me out in any way and thoughtfully answered all of my questions. Having seen many physicians over the past decade who often keep patients waiting for close to an hour, and then try to work through each patient as quickly as possible, it is frustrating and disappointing. Dr. Alvarez's patient-centric approach of listening and ensuring the patient concerns have been addressed is refreshing and almost shocking. She truly has patience with her patients. Dr. Alvarez is truly - as stated by my ENT at the Mayo Clinic, the best audiologist in the state of Florida."

A 2017 article in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience cited two studies that found people wearing hearing aids improved their performance on cognitive tests. The article said hearing aids, when prescribed at the beginning of age-related hearing loss, can postpone cognitive side effects. We want to help you life your best life through healthy hearing.

Tinnitus is the perception of a sound that has no external source. Patients will report “ringing”, “humming”, “buzzing”, and “crickets”. It can be constant or come and go, it can be soft sometimes and loud other times. Although there is no external source for tinnitus, it is not a phantom sound- there is real neural activity in your brain that you are hearing as your tinnitus. While tinnitus typically begins with a hearing loss, it is not exclusively an auditory problem. It is a result of neurological changes within the auditory system and within the parts of the brain that influence conscious attention and emotional state. No single explanation applies to all cases, but the process outlined below describes one of the more commonly accepted theories about what causes tinnitus. When the natural balance is upset by a hearing loss, the neurological activity is altered, and this altered activity is then interpreted by the brain as sound. This results in whistling or ringing sounds commonly known as tinnitus.
Although there is no cure for Tinnitus, the good news is there are sound therapy treatment programs that can significantly reduce tinnitus awareness and disturbance for over 90% of suitable patients affected by tinnitus. Palm Coast Hearing Center & Ormond Hearing Center is one of the few clinics that offer evidenced-based tinnitus evaluation and management services.
Today and all days, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice 🇺🇸

Thanks again to Victoria for the wonderful feedback!
"Dr. Indira Alvarez just helped me find new hearing aids, and she did a fantastic job. She has extensive education, experience, and knowledge of all the aids on the market. I have severe hearing loss, and over a period of weeks, she patiently tried two different aids and three different types of ear molds before we found the right ones for me. You can buy hearing aids on your own or from a salesclerk at a hearing aid store, but you will never know if they are the optimal ones for your needs or be able to program them as well as she can. I can't recommend her highly enough. On top of all that, she's a lovely person." - Victoria K. on Google

"A hearing dog cannot replace the use of properly fit hearing devices for people with significant hearing loss. Hearing dogs add to their masters’ sense of security and support. Some people with hearing loss may also feel a certain amount of isolation especially when home alone. A hearing dog is not only a working partner, but a wonderful companion and source of emotional connection as well."
