Many people see health as an event: “If I just lose 20 pounds, then I’ll be in shape.”

Many people see losing a certain amount of weight as a way of solving all their problems, but you'll notice that the ones who focus on the process of losing weight end up far happier and healthier. Why is that?

Well the people who stay focused on their goals, you start to realize that it’s not the events or the results that make them different. It’s the commitment to the process.

They fall in love with the daily practice, not the individual event.

What’s funny, is that this focus on the process is what will allow you to enjoy the results anyway.

You have to fall in love with building the identity of someone who does the work, rather than merely dreaming about the results that you want.

Focusing on outcomes and goals is our natural tendency, but focusing on processes leads to more results over the long-run.

Make sure your focus is in the right places.
It’s important to make sure “progress” expectations are realistic for your unique goals, lifestyle, and health levels.
The fitness industry is full of over promises with fads and trends that prey on people's insecurities.
This has created an initial trend of having unrealistic expectations when you first start your journey.
A rule of thumb I like to say is this:
Your results may take longer than you want, but will happen faster than you realize.
Getting results takes time, and most importantly, learning how to maintain those results takes even longer.
But, you can, and will get there.
The worst thing you can do is compare your progress to someone else’s.
No two people are the same.
Lifestyle, health markers, genetics, history, etc.
Focus only on your own journey, and what you can control.

Focus and concentration can be difficult to master.
Sure, most people want to learn how to improve focus and boost concentration. But we live in a noisy world and constant distractions can make focus difficult.
Most people don’t have trouble with focusing.
They have trouble with deciding.
The key to maintain long-term focus is deciding to concentrate on processes, not events. All too often, we see success as an event that can be achieved and completed.
If you want to be a great writer, then having a best-selling book is wonderful. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of writing.
If you want to be in the best shape of your life, then losing 20 pounds might be necessary. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of a caloric deficit and consistent exercise.
If you want to become significantly better at anything, you have to fall in love with the process of doing it.
You have to fall in love with building the identity of someone who does the work, rather than merely dreaming about the results that you want.
Focusing on outcomes and goals is our natural tendency, but FOCUSING on processes leads to more results over the long-run.
When you hear about a dramatic transformation (like someone losing 100 pounds) or an incredible success story, the only thing you know is the result.
You don't hear anything about the process that came before it or about the habits that led to the eventual result.
It's natural to think that we need the result, the transformation, the overnight success.
But that's not what you need.
What you need are 3 things:
An aligned mindset.
Better habits.
And a consciously designed environment.
How in shape or out of shape are you? A result of your habits.
How happy or unhappy are you? A result of your mindset.
How successful or unsuccessful are you at reaching your goals? A result of your environment.
It’s so easy to OVERestimate the importance of one defining moment and UNDERestimate the value of making better decisions on a daily basis.
The desire to achieve results quickly fools you into thinking that the result is the prize.
Which is why you see so many people lose weight to only stay unconfident, unfulfilled and unsatisfied.
But here's the truth...
Becoming the type of person you want to become — someone who lives by a stronger standard, someone who believes in themselves, someone who can be counted on by the people that matter to them — is about the daily process you follow and not the ultimate product you achieve.
Focus on that. Not your abs.

The gym should enhance your life, not consume it.
You don’t need to be in the gym two hours a day, 7 days a week.
3-4 is plenty!

Most people see their body and health issues as a problem to be fixed…
Sure, it may be a problem, but the way to fix that problem for good is to acquire the skill of fitness and sustainable health.
This is very important.

As a busy guy and new dad, Rich really got off track.

Most clients inquire about my coaching to lose body fat.
Yes, this is one of the main outcomes we achieve through our transformation programs.
But, something that is important to realize is that body fat is just a symptom of the problem that I solve, not the problem in and of itself.
In this post I’d like to uncover a few of the main lifestyle and habitual problems that I see with clients that lead to body fat gain… and how we go about solving it.
1 - You’re trying to do too much.
You are only human who has a certain amount of capacity.
Most of my clients are high achievers, and they try and implement so many fitness habits and goals at once, that they feel like a failure after they can't stick to it for 1 day… Which leads to giving up until you can be perfect again.
2 - Unhelpful habits.
You are in the habit of eating certain foods, not exercising well, and linking different actions (like watching netflix, having friends over, etc.) with food that cause you to overeat or stay inactive.
3 - Your stress is very high and you are overwhelmed.
Usually comes from an unsustainable lifestyle where there is too much on your plate. Always feel like you are behind, have 2-4 coffees in the day, eating in a rushed, stressed state, etc.
Your nervous system is also dysregulated. Your mood, sleep, digestion, focus, etc. are all affected.
You might use that 4th coffee, or afternoon sugary snack as a break or a reward for getting through your busy day.
But overtime, this causes more harm than good, and adds to the nervous system dysregulation.
4 - You don’t know what’s actually important to you, and how your health approach aligns with those values.
If you just want to lose body fat, you will most likely fail.
But if losing body fat aligns with your core values of showing your family an example of health and fitness, and creating the highest quality experiences with them as possible.
Then you will achieve it.
The goals that we achieve in life are the ones that are aligned to our own values.
The classic all or nothing mindset.
5 - You are bombarded with false or conflicting information and find it hard to understand
