Check out these adorable 2 😍!

Their Mom Anna sent us a sweet update:

"Just wanted to share an update on the 2 most spoiled doggies of all time! Ocky (formerly Trooper) and Eve (formerly Martha) - Eve is a relatively new addition from November but we have had Ocky almost 4 years now. They steal socks, take long walks, cuddle their humans (especially the teen and the tween!), and nap in the sun. Oh and they love Sunday brunch because mom sneaks them bacon & eggs. They've made our family complete and we appreciate you all so much for bringing them into our lives!! "

Awww, THANK YOU Anna for loving, adopting and sharing this pupdate with us!! πŸ₯°

Let's see your spoiled alumni! Drop us a pic below! πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

Smarty Pants Kitty Cat Vanessa asked her Mom Kelly to type out an email to us. Here's what she said:

"Hello Suncoast friends!
I wanted to let you all know that I am doing great in my new home! My mom and dad love to give me pets and think it’s so cute how much I love it too.
It took a little bit for my new sister Betty to warm up to me, but now we are running around and playing with each other sometimes. We are both pretty respectful of each other when one wants space.
I have so many new toys and a really tall cat tree to sleep in. Dad likes to hide treats in the cat trees for us to hunt and at first I was a little confused, but now I run right over and start searching.
I am very happy and making lots of biscuits if you want any lol

Love,
Vanessa"

Well Kelly, please be sure to tell pretty Vanessa that we loved receiving her email and are so happy that she's found her best family! 😻
And thank you for adopting and sharing this update! ❀️

You know we ❀️ updates! And this one came from Natalie. She had a special mission..... Read on!

"First, thank you for being such a wonderful rescue!

Second, I adopted my amazing love bug June (I kept her name) from you guys in December of 2019 at one of your events. I found out later from June’s foster mom that she was brought in from a shelter I think in Alabama with a brother, formerly named Johnny, who I believe may have been adopted out prior. Not sure if they know he has a sister but would love to put them together! It may be a long shot but figured it can’t hurt to ask!

Thanks again for the opportunity to meet my amazing June. She brings me so much joy and happiness every day. She is full of personality and shows me so much love.😍
Love my big goofball. Thank you for all that you do!

Fun fact, I did a DNA test and found out she is 50% Treeing Walker Coonhound & 50% Great Pyrenees, which is where I think she gets her double dew claws from :)"

Thank you Natalie for the very lovely words and sending the update on your sweet June!
Hopefully Johnny's parents are out there in Internet land and you can put this little family together! 🐾❀️

We received the loveliest update from Olivia and Chad! πŸ’

Here's what they shared!
"We thought you all might appreciate photos from our wedding in April. It was at HOB Brewing in Dunedin, and dog-themed! We had 9 dogs invited to the wedding, three of whom are SAL Alumnae! Yes, it was absolutely chaotic, barking during the vows, leashes entangled at the reception... but it was perfect! πŸ’•

I adopted Pepper (black and white dog in center) in February 2020. At the time, her name was Princess, and she was the mother of 9 puppies that came in with her. My husband, Chad, to the right of me is holding Maisie (formally known as Hazel) and directly to my left is Winnie (formally known as Penny). Chad and I fostered Maisie and Winnie starting in January. They came in with several other hound-y looking dogs in their litter. We knew Maisie and Pepper were becoming the best of pals, and our friends Nick and Emily absolutely fell in love with Winnie. Adoptions for both were finalized in March.

Pepper was the Flower Girl and Maisie the Ring Bearer.

Pepper, Maisie and Winnie have frequent playdates all together, and we are so grateful to Suncoast Animal League for bringing our most loved family members to us!😍"

Thank you so much for sharing this with us Olivia and Chad, and of course for loving and adopting your girls from us! Oh and Congratulations! πŸ₯‚πŸŽ‰

Happy Gotcha Day Finn!! 🎊🦴😍

We want to share the sweet note we received from Heather.

'"Today we get to celebrate a whole year of Finn! Finn (formerly Baxter) has been the perfect addition to our household. He adores playing with his two older brothers Kodi and Sherman, toys, food (ALL the food, don’t ever skip his veggies!), and the garden hose.πŸ’¦ He’s the sweetest boy, he loves to cuddle and hog the whole bed. We received a fabulous Birthday update from Julie! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰βœ¨πŸŽˆ

"Today we celebrate the 8th birthday of Selina, our who was supposedly a Hospice puppy when we got her at 4 months old. She was brain injured, probably from blunt force trauma, and was consequently unable to walk. She has beaten the odds, as you can see from the photo of her going airborne as she plays with her sisters! She got a whipped cream filled Kong to celebrate her birthday,Β  and we had a giant sandbox built for her (See photo). We still get cold laser treatments to her brain, and she still runs like a drunk Bambi on ice skates, but she enjoys life to the max. Thanks to Suncoast for our precious girl!! "

Thank you Julie for loving and adopting sweet Selina!
Special needs pups are so worthy of all the love too.....Thank you for knowing that and giving Selina her best life! 🐾❀️

Among the many shelter friends we've had, Jerry Lee was a standout. Not because he was easy but because he was a misunderstood, long-tern neglected boy that had a rough time at the shelter, until kind volunteers Ernie and Katie gave him a chance, fostered him and made the biggest and best difference in his life. Rest easy knowing how loved you were Jerry Lee. πŸ’”

Reason #497 why Suncoast Animal League Alumni are the best! πŸ₯°

Many of our Alumni are ambassadors for foster siblings in their home. They mentor, help provide confidence, comfort, companionship and fun for puppies, kittens, cats and dogs that would otherwise be at our shelter. πŸˆπŸ•

Do the Alumni pets remember being helped when they were fosters and are paying it forward? Maybe πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
Do they realize how important their role is, helping others find a forever home? Probably not. πŸ€”
Do they have fun and enjoy their foster friends? You betcha! 😍

Thank you to the many Alumni and their families for fostering, sharing their homes and pawrents with our shelter friends!!
Shown here are Little Sister, Winter, Giselle and Yeti 🐾

If your Alumni has had or has a foster sibling, drop a picture below for us, so we can thank them too ! πŸ‘‡

If you have an Alumni that you think might like to try a foster sister or brother, you can always send an email to learn more!

And as always, Thank you to ALL our for adopting from us! 🐾β™₯️

We received a note from Loryn who wanted to update us about her sweet Luna. She wrote,

" I got my dog, Luna, from you guys in 2011 at a Petsmart event in Clearwater. She was named Honey at the time and had a foster mom with red hair, though I can’t recall her name. Luna recently passed at home and I just wanted to thank you guys for saving her so we could have such a long time with the best dog ever. She was amazing and healed our hearts in so many ways. She really was the perfect dog.

I'm not sure if her foster mom is still involved in your organization, but just wanted to pass the message along. Her fur brother, Luke (who we got from you in 2012 at Dogtoberfest) is still happy and well.
>
> Thanks for all you do. We appreciate you all so much."

We are sorry to hear of Luna's passing, however grateful that she had such a wonderful life with you and your family Loryn. Thank you for loving and caring for her. β™₯️

We lost one of our own recently. πŸ’”
She, like so many of our favorite pets was so very special. Gracie exemplified "rescue". She was the literal junkyard dog that came from the Redlands rescue we did back in Spring of 2016. She lived outside in the South Florida heat, was clearly overbred and both her body and mind showed the wear and tear of being neglected.

We brought her to Suncoast Animal League hoping that she could be someone's beloved pet. Back then she was named Sabrina. She was a bully mix, about four or five years old, heartworm positive, scarred, with ni***es that hung low as a result of the many litters she nursed. Her job had been to protect her territory so she did that too....which meant that she was reactive to other dogs. Not necessarily the dog that people line up for at adoption events. So she hung out at the shelter for a long while. She had many volunteer friends and even spent a little time in a foster home, but had no adoption prospects for months.

One day a young woman came to meet her. Annie had been following Sabrina on social media and wanted to make sure she had an appropriate living situation for her. Not a place with breed or size restrictions.....so she bought a house where she could bring her home. And that she did. In September of 2016, Annie adopted Sabrina, gave her a beautiful new name, Gracie, and started a new life with her new best friend. Annie met Gracie where she was in HER life. If Gracie didn't want to socialize with other dogs, she didn't have to. She didn't have to meet people and be taken to public places if she didn't want to. If Gracie wanted to sleep on beds and couches, she could.

Annie became a dog walking volunteer for Suncoast Animal League. Over the years, she worked with a trainer so she and her bestie could bond and understand each other better. Years later, Gracie and Annie started walking with friends and their dogs, and both gained confidence and made friends. Annie bought another new house with a bigger yard so Gracie would have room to run and play. While volunteering at the shelter, Annie met Milo, another 5 year old bully mix, at Suncoast Animal League who came from awful conditions as well, but he won Annie over with his delightful demeanor. He and Gracie had a slow introduction and soon after, he became Gracie's brother. They had a wonderful little pack for a few short years. Unfortunately, Milo didn't live long enough, and Gracie was an only dog again. Eventually, Annie found her another happy-go-lucky handsome brother, Gus. They played and snuggled up to each other. So here was this former junkyard dog that was supposed to be a solo dog, that ended up having had two brothers, pajama parties and playdates with other dog friends, and just shined in the mix of her sassiness and happiness. πŸ’•

Sadly, Gracie crossed the rainbow bridge this past weekend. She was almost 13 years old and broke a lot of our hearts when she left us. But she taught us a lot about how our dogs need their safe space, time and patience to show you who they really are, or even become. She reminded us that as much as it hurts when they leave us, it is always a blessing to have been lucky enough to love them.

Thank you Annie, for adopting Gracie and Milo from us, and loving them so intensely. They are together again. Rest In Peace Sweet Gracie.🐾
