On this day in 1984, a dedicated group of community volunteers founded DAP Health to protect and expand access to health care for some of the most marginalized and forgotten among us. Four decades later, still guided by the voices and needs of the diverse communities we serve, we provide medical and social services to some 85,000 people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, orientations, and socioeconomic statuses at 25 fixed locations and eight mobile units from the Coachella Valley to the San Diego coast. Saturday, August 17 is National Thrift Store Day, and to mark the occasion, all four of DAP Health’s Revivals Stores (in Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, and Indio) are getting in on the fun all weekend with a “Shop Like It’s 1984” 40% off sale. Why 1984? Why 40 off? Because DAP Health was founded on August 20, 1984, and we’re celebrating our Big Four-Oh (next week) a little early. https://revivalsstores.com/re-love-the-pre-loved/national-thrift-store-day/

With the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring a global emergency over a new mpox strain, the disease is again in the news. But at DAP Health, we know it never went away. Cases keep popping up throughout Southern California. We have vaccine doses to prevent infection.

If you’ve never had either of the series of two shots, get your first one. And 30 days later, get your second one. If you’ve had the first shot, and it’s been 30 days, get the second.

Call 760.992.0492 to schedule an appointment at either of DAP Health’s sexual wellness clinics, at Stonewall Medical Center in Cathedral City, or at The Orange Clinic at DAP Health Sunrise in Palm Springs.

Our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Aquilina spoke to News Channel 3 yesterday. Watch the segment here https://kesq.com/news/2024/08/14/local-health-agencies-respond-to-who-declaring-mpox-a-global-health-emergency/

Mpox is rearing its ugly head again. While no new cases have yet been documented in Palm Springs, we know the city and the desert in general are a magnet for people living in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Riverside counties, especially in the summer. Cases have been documented there. Mpox crosses boundaries of age, race, gender, and sexual orientation. Any close contact—not just sexual—can transmit it. Be on the lookout for painful lesions and have them tested at an urgent care or by your primary care provider. If you have not received your series of two mpox vaccines, get them ASAP. Visit one of DAP Health’s three free sexual wellness clinics—in Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and Indio—to get the shots. Here’s an important news segment about it all. https://kesq.com/news/2024/06/26/riverside-county-reports-new-cases-of-mpox-local-health-officials-encourage-vaccinations/ via KESQ News Channel 3

Designer Steve Chase’s Rancho Mirage “Micro-Resort” Remains Original 07/01/2024

How wonderful to see that the cover of Palm Springs Life Magazine, Palm Springs California's July issue is devoted to the late, world-renowned interior designer Steve Chase and the fact that his historic desert home is on the market. Not only that, but in the lavishly illustrated article, writer Heather Shoning makes ample reference to the ties that bind Chase to DAP Health as an early volunteer, benefactor, and board member of the nonprofit. We are moved that Steve’s legacy shines on some 30 years after his death from AIDS complications. Rest in peace, beloved hero.
