Gregory Douglass
"One of New England's best-kept secrets." -Morning Edition, NPR http://www.gregorydouglass.com
Gregory’s evocative, alternative sound blends "Rufus Wainwright's opulent musicality and Justin Timberlake ́s accessible soulfulness," (OUT Magazine). His recent spotlight on NPR's Morning Edition has coined him "one of New England's best- kept secrets." Douglass has shared the stage with artists like Regina Spektor, They Might Be Giants, Shawn Colvin, The Weepies, Jason Mraz, and Margaret Cho. Ac
TEETER (album #3, circa 2001) was conceived after I met Jeremy Mendicino – a brilliant genius of a musician. This collaboration literally changed my life and influenced the direction of my music for the long run. I provided the songs, Jeremy recorded, engineered & produced the album, and played every instrument on the album (aside from my own piano & acoustic guitar parts).
I wrote some of what I still believe to be my strongest songs to date for that album. Songs like “Hard” and “Time” came to be my most requested songs. There was so much transition and excitement during that time as my indie career started to take flight outside of Vermont, and I think we really captured the energy, expansion, and future possibility throughout this album 🙌
TEETER also marked the launch of my own humble indie label Emote Records. Fun fact, the orange “ER” in the album cover title TEETER was a subtle nod to the launch of Emote Records 😉
I also started a new trend (for this album and all that would follow) of including a brief dedication that spoke to the theme of the album. TEETER’s dedication was “This album is dedicated to anyone who has ever teetered on the edge of truth; for those who have loved and lost, over and over again.”
Special thanks to everyone who help to craft this album: Jeremy Mendicino, Angie Lizotte, Tzvi Holt, Leeeza Robbins, Gwendolyn Biondolillo, Lane Gibson, Chas Eller & Rose Lucas 💗
We bought a condo! After a little over a year of renting our unit here in the beautiful Mesquite Country Club Condos, we’ve finally purchased our first home! Frankly, I never thought I’d see this day. Life is hard, AND there’s so much to be grateful for – especially in defining moments like this. Thank you Glen Nadeau for being my co-pilot. Thank you Ned Kane and Kari Collins for all of your support in this. Thank you Justin Dees for introducing us all in the first place. Perhaps a house-warming is in order! Cheers, it’s closing day! 🥂 🍾 🏠 🌵 🌴 🙏

Congratulations to Sadie and Evan Ratliff 🥂 Your Guncles couldn't be happier for you, and what a beautiful weekend it was to celebrate with everyone!
When your flight gets delayed, tell them all to step aside so you can just rebook it yourself 😜
I released GREGORY DOUGLASS (2000) 💿 right out of high school and recorded all the song demos at Brewster Academy in advance. I was actually the only student in my 1999 graduating class who did NOT go on to college. Instead, I recorded my second album after I graduated, and I decided to hit the ground running with my newfound indie music career 🤟
This was my BIG follow-up album and the first fully-produced album with a full band. I was technically still a teenager and the guys in the band were all much older than me, so we all lovingly referred to ourselves as "Gregory Douglass and The Mount Rushmores" at the time 😂
I decided to introduce "Gregory Douglass" (vs. just Greg Douglass) as a self-titled album because there was already a well-established musician named Greg Douglass who was a well-known guitarist in the Steve Miller Band. I figured I'd set the stage early on to prevent long-term confusion. Many years later, Greg actually reached out to me and invited me to sing on his album!
My indie hero Ani Difranco was paving the way for so many of us back in 1999. There was so much possibility ahead for indie artists, and she was living proof that you didn't necessarily need a big record label to foster a sustainable career in music. Those were the days that CD sales kept me in business. Today, music is free, but the costs associated are still at large. It was such a different world back then – and it wasn't THAT long ago!
I began performing locally in Vermont, slowly branching out into New England one coffee shop and house concert at a time. It was an incredible feeling to be heard and seen through music. And it was incredible to see how much my original songs were actually helping people navigate all sorts of powerful things in their lives. I knew this was my calling and I haven't looked back since.
Shout-out to everyone who worked on this album back in the day: Bill Kinzie, Brian Bull, Kip Meaker, Patrick Ross, Peter Persechino, Sal Ditroia, Erin Johnson Sidney, Glory Douglass-Reinstein Lanphear, Rob Michalak, Michael Farley, Craig Spoth, Nat Woodard, Mark Sasahara, Lane Gibson Recording and Mastering, Chas Eller, Jules Loup Guillemette (who co-wrote "Perfect Sacrifice" with me), and my sister Gwendolyn Biondolillo (who sings "Saying Goodbye" with me) 💗
You can listen to GREGORY DOUGLASS in whatever car you may have that still has a CD player in it (or wherever you stream your music) 😂 Better yet, you can buy my Complete Digital Discography & Digital Lyric eBook right from my website.

Getting cultured at Intersect Palm Springs 🎨
Sending out lots of love to Elizabeth Nadeau, Holly Nadeau, Glen Nadeau, and the whole Nadeau family this week... Glen is currently back in Vermont during this significant time because his mom will finally receive the kidney she needs and Glen’s sister Holly is going to be the brave donor. Please wish them well in their time of recovery, and feel free to reach out to me or Glen directly if you have any questions 💗

In honor of my forthcoming album, I'm taking the year to celebrate my entire back-catalogue of albums and releases. I'm excited to do a deeper dive with a different album each month (in chronological order) throughout 2024! Let's just call this my (Taylor Swift) 2024 "Eras" Tour 😎
With the help of my brilliant co-creator Aurora Lucia-Levey, I'll be sharing more stories about each album, revisiting select songs, and even creating some home grown music videos that never got to be made back in the day.
First up, my debut album "If I Were A Man" (released in 1998) 💿
If I were to compare the level of vulnerability in the songs from the new album I'm working on to any other past album, I would compare it to "If I Were A Man." It's remarkable how full-circle it feels to be an artist today – 26 years later.
There's so much to share on that front – too much for one post – so I'm taking a year to share it all. I hope you'll follow along on your social platform of choice. Better yet, I hope you'll share any personal stories or associations you may have had over the years with any of the songs from this album as we go along 💗 🎶
"I just never understood / How a man who died for good / Could not have a day that would / Be set aside for his recognition ... in peace, our hearts will sing / Thanks to Martin Luther King"
- Stevie Wonder, "Happy Birthday" Hotter than July (1980)
You might not know that on November 2, 1983 – after a 15-year battle – President Ronald Reagan signed the King Holiday Bill into law, designating the third Monday in January a federal holiday in observance of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The legislation to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first introduced just four days after his assassination on April 4, 1968. Still, it would take 15 years of persistence by civil rights activists for the holiday to be approved by the federal government and an additional 17 years for it to be recognized in all 50 states.
Thank you, Dr. King, for fighting the good fight. And thank you to the brave few – the brave black, trans, q***r, minorities, civil rights leaders, and activists – who we may never know the names of who have paved the way for us in ways we may never truly understand the lengths of.
P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, please watch "Fellow Travelers" (Showtime, HBO MAX). There's so much to learn about love, acceptance, and bravery throughout our black & q***r political struggle here in America ✊🏻 ✊🏽 ✊🏿 🏳️🌈 ⚧️ 🏳️⚧️
Happy New Year’s Eve 🥂
