The Glenn Highway to Parks Highway off-ramp from Palmer toward Wasilla and the Parks Highway to Glenn Highway off-ramp from Wasilla toward Palmer will be CLOSED from 8PM Friday, July 19 to 6AM Monday, July 22.

To DETOUR around these closures, continue heading south on the Glenn Highway toward Anchorage, exit at Knik River Access, and re-enter the Glenn Highway headed north. This detour will add about 10 minutes to your drive, please plan accordingly.

Dec 26, 0730: Public Works are out and about. They will be working on clearing the neighborhood and subdivision roads today.

2:20 PM: All the vehicles stranded on the main streets, especially Colony Way, have been towed to the Palmer Library parking lot. If you go to look for your vehicle and it’s not there, call the non-emergency number, 745-4811, and dispatch can let you know if it’s been towed.

We ask people who had to abandon their vehicles in a roadway be actively trying to dig the car out, so the plows can continue to work.

8:05: Public Works has informed us the plows should be back out as of 0800 this morning. Let’s hope those winds die down and they can clear these streets.

9:20 PM: A fire engine is stuck in the snow at Evergreen and Colony Way. Emergency response is very strained right now. Please help them and stay off the roads.

5:30 PM: It’s going to be a long night. S Colony Way coming into town from the Glenn Hwy has several vehicles stuck and abandoned in the snow drifts. It is impassable. Visibility is zero. City plow truck drivers are headed home as they’ve been going nonstop since last night. They’re going to grab some food and sleep. It’s an uphill battle for them, because as soon as they push through a drift and move on to the next, the one they just cleared is drifted over again. That will happen when we get dumped on with snow and then good old Palmer Winds come through. The plows will be out as soon as they can.

***The best option right now is to stay indoors, start prepping for a long night. Get yourselves prepared in case the power goes out, if it’s not already. Get the extra blankets out, fill up some water bottles, prepare a little extra food and set it aside.***

1058: Vehicle stuck and blocking E Beaver Avenue at Gulkana Street.

1037: Road conditions are continuing to deteriorate and consistently changing. We are struggling to get to all the roads to report on conditions. Please continue to add comments if you come across roads which are impassable. Thank you for helping the rest of us out!

0845: Felton Street near Felicia Avenue is impassable. Cottonwood Avenue next to the Courthouse is drifted over.

0840: The list of roads which are becoming impassable is growing. Officers are reporting 15-20 different sections of roads which are drifted over. They’re also handling several calls for service and will provide me exact locations when they can. PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS TODAY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

0737: Helen Drive near Felton Street is CLOSED. There are several vehicles stuck in the snow drifts and Public Works is unable to plow.

The wind has definitely arrived. Please stay off the roads if possible! Public Works will be working on keeping the main roads passable, but side roads will have to wait.

***Evergreen Avenue between Gulkana Street and Airport Road is CLOSED due to snow drifts. Use an alternate route.

A few basic steps for protecting your skin during winter....

Cleanse daily with a gentle cleanser suited for your skin. Your roomie's or BFF's cleanser might not be right for you!
Cleansing with a cleanser too harsh for you (or even one that is great for you in summer) may cause dryness and irritation during the bitter cold, wind and dryness of winter.

Avoid cleansing with hot water. Use comfortably warm water, not hot. Yes, the heat feels so good, however, it leaves the skin more dry and tight in the long run.

Blot dry with a clean towel. Avoid the urge to rub dry after washing your face or getting out of the shower. Apply face and body moisturizers while your skin is still slightly damp. You may like a spritz or 3 of hydrating mist before applying your serum and moisturizers.

Use a hydrating mist during the day. The various heat sources are very drying and a few spritzes of hydrating mist will be much appreciated - like an oasis in the desert! The Stone Crop Hydrating Mist is a must have. In the Aloe family, and many times more healing. Use under moisturizer, then throughout day, even over makeup.

Moisturize am & pm with moisturizers for your unique skin condition and skin goals. A heavier moisturizer than your summer moisturizer, and that is more protective against the winter elements is key to healthy, youthful skin.
