By attending this event, you will have the opportunity to visit beautiful, high-fidelity Children's House (ages 3-6) and Elementary Montessori (ages 6-12) classrooms and see unique materials not found in any other classrooms designed for children's hands-on learning. Keeping a clean, orderly classroom is important in a Montessori environment. The practical life activities teach children how to take care of the space around them- from physically cleaning to, on a deeper level, appreciating one's environment. These activities may include how to set the table, how to clean dishes or how to water and care for plants. For example, in the Montessori table-washing activity, the child would be shown how to go to the correct area of the room to gather cleaning supplies, take a pitch to the sink, and fill it with water, and then methodically scrub the table. Another example: children love learning how to put out a flower arrangement in the classroom. Not only is is beautiful, but they get to make choices about what will make it the most beautiful, all while performing a very involved sequence of tasks with a naturally mandatory order.There are multiple layers to these activities! In Montessori classrooms, activities can often mean extended sequences of work. In our toddler community, plant watering led to the need for mopping. Through this sequence of events, children learn about natural consequences (then we spill water, the floor gets wet!) and problem solving (most mistakes can be fixed).

We’re Open and Offering Emergency Care for Essential Workers
Guidepost Montessori at Palo Alto is now offering Emergency Care for Essential Workers (ECEW) to “essential workers” seeking child care services during the COVID-19 crisis so that they can remain focused on their critical work. The program will be offered to families within and outside the Guidepost network. Care will be provided for children ages 8 weeks-6 years in small group cohorts (10 students per classroom) on-site at our existing locations, or within the existing infrastructure on-site within medical facilities and their surrounding properties.
