While you’re grieving… “Eliminate the word “should” from your vocabulary. There is no reason why you “should” stop grieving at a certain point, even though some people expect you to. There is no reason why you “should” spend your life alone, even if it’s hard for others to watch you date. And there’s no reason why you “should” expect your life to go back to normal when deep down you know it won’t.” Read more from Catherine Tidd’s article: NO ‘SHOULDS’ IN GRIEVING A SPOUSE’S DEATH linked below https://www.opentohope.com/no-shoulds-in-grieving-a-spouses-death/

Happy Heavenly Birthday Scott Horsley ❤️

Scott is the inspiration and guiding light for Open to Hope foundation and the Horsley family. The Horsley family’s only son and brother, Scott, was killed in an automobile accident when he was only 17 years old. This tragic loss devastated the family but became the driving force behind Open to Hope’s mission: to help others who have experienced loss, and to give a voice to the bereaved. We have found hope and joy after loss and we wish to share that with you all.

We miss you every day Scott. We are doing this for you ❤️

Have you ever asked yourself this question? How long will my grief last?

People say it will take a month, a year, or even five years to get over the passing of a loved one. Other people say that grief takes as long as it takes, and to those newly grieving or those experiencing their first transition of a loved one, such uncertain advice can be horrifying, leaving them thinking that the immense pain they are feeling right now may never end.

Excerpted from The Grief and Happiness Handbook by Emily Threatt.

Emily has much experience with the grieving process having dealt with the death of two husbands, as well as the deaths of her father, mother, sister, and many aunts, uncles, and friends. Through all this, she learned to face life with love, optimism, and joy.

We are very pleased to announce we will be attending another:

“The Compassionate Friends (TCF) 47th Annual National Conference in New Orleans! TCF’s National Conference is an enriching and supportive event for many newer and long-time bereaved parents, grandparents, and siblings. Attendees come and find renewed hope and support, as well as strategies for coping with grief, all while making friendships with other bereaved people who truly understand the heartbreaking loss of a child, sibling, or grandchild. Lifelong friendships are often formed and rekindled each year at TCF conferences.

Unique and cherished highlights of our conference include our heartfelt Saturday evening Candle Lighting Program, Sharing Sessions, Keynote Addresses, Healing Haven, Butterfly Boutique, Crafty Corner, and Silent Auction. Our weekend of inspiration, sharing, and learning is followed by the Walk to Remember on Sunday morning.

This year’s conference will be held at the New Orleans Marriott. We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans!”

We never lose the people we love

“I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought, and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love” -Leo Buscagli
