It's official - after 16 years, we are trading in A Page Is Turned for retirement! Our web site remains open as we currently have a couple of people interested in purchasing our business and we have jobs we are finishing up. We will continue to do work for past customers, as many have ongoing projects. We will still do some slideshows for friends and past customers. Please contact us if you are interested in providing lasting memories for your clients through a business that has not advertised in almost 10 years!
My Grandpa was so handsome! Are you preserving your memories?

I wanted to take the time to write a review for APT, they are a small family owned business right here locally in Parker and do an amazing job! I reached out to them to have our Wedding VHS converted to digital as well as DVD and was in a tad of a rush to have it done; Penny replied (via Facebook messenger) promptly and I was able to hand them my VHS and have my DVD and digital copy by the next day. Penny & Ed are an extremely friendly couple that care about their customers and it shows in the presentation. The turnaround is quick and the product is perfect. We had been unable to find our DVD copy of our wedding, but luckily had the VHS copy (17 years old), APTs edits came out perfect! I highly recommend them to any one near of far who needs work done/converted.
Ed is just finishing up another BIG 8mm film conversion to digital - 2 1/4 miles of film!

The memorial video below muted the last song in the show in Canada due to copyright laws. I posted to youtube, which often deletes entire videos due to that reason. However, I find they often are more generous with memorial videos, and they have left this one up for days now. Who wouldn't want their beautiful music shared with more people? This is the youtube link. https://youtu.be/aa1qRJL0Fv4

I know that many of our clients are into genealogy. I ran across this today in Eastman's Genealogy Newsletter, and thought it was worth sharing!
Our Ancestors Used to Stink
Let’s face it. Our ancestors used to smell. You probably won’t read about personal hygiene in history books but the historians all will tell you attention to one’s body odors was more-or-less unknown until recent years. The “good old days” may have been good but they also were smelly.
Writing in the Irish Examiner, Robert Hume investigates what our ancestors did to keep themselves cool and deal with body odor. Or, as the Irish write it, “odour.”
Here are a few of Hume’s statements:
“The fondness for bathing stopped once the medieval church warned of the evils of nudity. In Europe, bathhouses were closed down in the 14th century as a way of trying to check the spread of plague.”
“Aristocrats were often as dirty as peasants. A visitor to King Louis XVI’s court at Versailles described it as a ‘stinking cesspit’”.
“When Elizabeth Drinker had a shower installed in her backyard in Philadelphia in 1799, she said: ‘I bore it better than expected, not having been wet all over for 28 years past.’”
“But at first soap was a luxury. Only when the soap tax was removed in Britain and Ireland in 1853 could most people afford to buy it.”
See you at the Highlands Ranch Genealogy Fair this Saturday, April 7th! HR Library!
I am enjoying scanning this client's 1970's slides of their trip to Switzerland, France and Germany. Especially Switzerland. My great-grandmother came to America from Switzerland, alone, when she was 13 years old. Have you preserved your memories?
Thank you John and Linda Kimble for sending us this fitting cartoon! It was so nice to meet you at the Castle Rock Genealogical Society Meeting on Saturday!
We preserve precious documents, as well as slides, prints, videos, film, and audio recordings!
We do the majority of our slideshows for memorial services. They are great keepsakes for family, but they are so sad to do! We also do them for weddings, graduations, birthdays, retirement parties, etc. But this summer we did one for Durango High School Class of 1956 60th Class Reunion. It was so fun - and I hear a hit at this month's reunion. Here is the YouTube link - I'm sure it will bring back memories of the 50s to many. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUgTNmqUHz4&hd=1 The segment featuring "Uncle Don" is by one of the classmates and he has many YouTube videos online.

I'm scanning scrapbooks for a client. I came to a section in one where her brother was married February 15, 1977. As part of his vows, he wrote:
"It’s not two becoming one,
Exactly,
More like one half
Finally locating the other."
I thought that was so beautiful. Then a few pages later, I came to newspaper clippings with crushing headlines.
Sadly, he was killed at the age of 25, with 272 others in the American Airline DC-10 disaster in Chicago on May 25, 1979.
Sometimes our memories are bittersweet. But she has the most beautiful scrapbook to remember and honor him. And now the memories will be preserved digitally for future generations.
Sometimes this job is bittersweet also.
Congratulations to our friend and client, Grant Wilkens! He was this year's Josef Korbel Humanitarian Award winner! Grant, who turned 89 yesterday, is a past Rotary International Director and has dedicated his life to eradicating polio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06cM6-N96i0

Slideshows say it all with music and pictures. This is one we did as a remembrance of those we lost from our high school class of 1970. It was shown at our 45th reunion. https://youtu.be/XZqR_LXlMpU

I scanned a few hundred photos last week for a woman whose father had passed away the day before she came by. It was a rush job, as she wanted to do her own memorial slideshow. She took the time to send us an email today. We love our customers!
"Hi Penny and Ed,
I want to thank you so much for the wonderful work you did scanning our photos! The pictures look great and we appreciate so much how quickly you were able to get them done for us! I was able to put together a beautiful slide show (using Windows Movie Maker) and everyone commented on the quality of the pictures - especially those very old ones!
I also appreciate your kindness and compassion during a very difficult time - you two are so sweet! I have been telling everyone about you and hope that you can get some more business from my rave reviews :) I know that when we start sorting through more of our precious family photos, we will be bringing them to you.
Thanks again,
Alison Harrison"
Although I haven't had the opportunity to travel the world in real life, I sometimes feel as if I have because of the wonderful photos, video and film we get from clients. The Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower - I've "been to" many times. But this is the first time I've had a client with pictures from Monte Carlo! Was hoping to catch a glimpse of Grace Kelly, but they weren't quite that lucky!
We love getting notes back from happy customers! I need to try to remember to do this for the people who give us great service. It means a lot.
"Hi Penny & Ed,
"Photo restoration gift for my husband was a great success.
I deeply appreciate all the work you did to the photo to restore it.
It is a treasure for sure that we can pass on thru the family.
Sending wishes for a happy and prosperous 2015
Warmly,
Karen Quinn"
Thank YOU Karen!
Well ladies - what can I say? I guess we've come a long way!
I'm working on a slideshow. Love this birth announcement from a Nebraska town in 1931. Love a little levity in small town newspapers!
I love coming home from the holidays to Christmas cards from happy clients. We converted a bunch of tapes and sent the DVDs off to a family in Kansas just in time for them to enjoy old memories while they were all together. These projects often get addictive - looks like we'll be expecting an order of slides from Kansas next!
And make sure future generations know your story.
