With much of the country heating up, many of us will turn to portable or window unit air conditioners.
NEVER use an extension cord or power strip with these units.
ALWAYS plug them directly into the wall and check the cords for cracks or damage.
Community Notification: Recent Scams
CSPD wants to warn community members of several recent phone scams that have been seen across our community. These scams involve someone impersonating an officer, telling a community member that they have a warrant for their arrest, and asking for money to ensure the community member doesn't get in trouble. CSPD wants to remind our community that we will never ask you for money regarding potential warrants.
If you're concerned the person contacting you might be a scam, hang up, and call our non-emergency line (719-444-7000) or any of our substations to verify the information. If you think you may have been a victim of a phone scam, please report it at 719-444-7000.
continues to receive reports of an ongoing involving a well-dressed male approaching females in the parking lot of a store. The male tells the female one of the tires on her vehicle is flat. While the male distracts the female, another person is reaching into the vehicle and stealing their personal belongings. In all incidents, the victim’s credit cards were used immediately in nearby stores.
✅Be Cautious: Be wary of strangers, even if they appear friendly. It’s okay to be skeptical. If the scammer insists on showing you the tire, tell the scammer you will call for help and stay in your vehicle.
✅Stay Aware: Always be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to those around you. Trust your gut. If something doesn’t feel normal, it probably isn’t.
✅Don’t Give Thieves the Opportunity: Never leave your purse or wallet unattended. Thieves look for crimes of opportunity, so keep your belongings with you at all times.
✅Report Suspicious Activity: Report any suspicious activity to the Grand Junction Police Department at 970-549-5000 or non-emergency dispatch at 970-242-6707.
Be vigilant. Be safe.
