Your Parma Fire Department responded to a working house fire yesterday on Gerald Ave. Crews were met with heavy fire throughout the home and difficult conditions inside. The fire was extinguished in under an hour. One resident was injured.
We want to reiterate that the resident was injured trying to rescue trapped pets. Never re-enter a burning structure. Provide the fire department with accurate information where to look and we will make the rescue safely.
Additionally there were no working smoke detectors in the residence. They are the best way to reduce fire injuries and severity. We recommend at least one per floor.
Lastly we want to thank Lt. Downie (retired) for his great pictures and videos from the scene.
Your Parma Fire Department responded to a call for a vehicle into a house. Two patients were transported to Metro Main ED in serious condition. One child was transported to UH Parma in stable condition. Multiple vehicles were involved needing the response of 3 ambulances, an engine and the heavy rescue. Thanks for your support and stay safe over the holiday weekend.

It's that time of year again when people think that they can blow off fireworks within the city. However, fireworks are still prohibited in the City of Parma. The City of Parmaโs Ordinance No. 59-22, enacted June 6, 2022, prohibits the possession, discharge, ignition and explosion of fireworks within city limits. Residents can call the non-emergency number at 440-885-1234 if they want to report fireworks being set off in their neighborhoods. Enjoy the holiday, but please leave the fireworks to the professionals.

As temperatures rise, your safety is our top priority. Here are some essential tips to help you stay safe and beat the heat:
1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, even if you donโt feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
2. Limit Outdoor Activities: Try to stay indoors during peak heat hours (10 AM - 4 PM). If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or cool places.
3. Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing. Donโt forget your hat and sunscreen!
4. Check on Vulnerable Neighbors: Ensure that elderly, sick, or neighbors without air conditioning are staying cool and hydrated.
5. Never Leave Children or Pets in Cars: Temperatures inside a parked car can skyrocket, becoming deadly within minutes.
6. Use Fans and Air Conditioning: If you donโt have air conditioning, visit shopping malls, libraries, or community centers to stay cool.
7. Be Mindful of Heat-Related Illnesses: Know the signs of heat exhaustion (heavy sweating, weakness, cold/pale/clammy skin) and heat stroke (high body temperature, hot/red/dry skin, rapid pulse, unconsciousness). Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms occur.
