The busy season is still here...

It's that time of year again....

Don’t forget…we are closed for service to today and tonight. We are off premise with an event.

I know a lot of people are looking but I'm searching for long term members of the teams for both my restaurants. An ideal employee has a good sense of humor, commitment to work with a good work ethic the can operate as a team and treat my loyal customers awesome in a professional manner. Competitive hourly pay and great tipped positions for the right people. Line cook hours are primarily evenings but most nights end by 10 at the latest if not earlier. Weekends and nights are a must but there is more flexibility in the winter months.

Positions are open at both my locations, The Carriage House Bistro & Tavern and The Wakefield Inn & Restaurant. Free Golf, Discounted Lodging, and other perks based on the position. We are continually growing and need good people to continue to do so. Positions are available for immediate interview so reach out and bring home a paycheck in just a week.

We played the waiting game with watching the weather, rearranged, added on, cut back...but finally here is our Wakefield Inn & Restaurant week to celebrate Wakefield's 250th. Call the Inn to save a spot!

Wow, it was one of the warmest holiday weekends I remember...the air was thicker than frozen butter.

The Inn had a nice weekend, the community support their still amazes me as we just pass our one year mark by days. Their Wakefield 250th Restaurant Week begins Tuesday with scattered events throughout the week. We will blast them tonight and hope to see you all there. Huge kudos to the team there, as always your loyalty and hard work are appreciated...and to Alissa Burr, thanks for being my rock there and and taking the lumps when I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Your all the best!

Again, a crazier than normal holiday weekend in oppressive heat. The girls in the kitchen work their butts off, often until they are almost or succumb to tears...some day we can convince everyone to not eat at the same time. We had one night where the heat was unbearable, tempers were way up there and patience was gone on every side so my thanks to those who stuck it out, my apologies to those who just were fed up. Sadly it happens and even more sadly we toss and turn about if for days. No need to expand the diatribe but we do appreciate you and hope to see you again. For the girls our front who took the brunt, your awesome and don't deserve it. Your all my heroes for jumping in and rocking the world without complaints.

A side note: We are grateful to be asked to cater a weekend celebration for a fantastic local family so the Bistro will be closed Saturday, July 13th, 2024.

What a fun crazy weekend. All of you who played through the humidity..Bravo...we are not sure but it might be a record weekend.
Thanks to everyone who celebrated through the night and showed up for their tee times like champs, Guests were fun and great all weekend, it makes us love to come to work.

Belleau Lake had their 19th Annual Tournament, Frank thanks for brining your group, they were great guys an girls as always..cheers to you all.

Chad, Sue, Pat, John, Dick, Ashley...you are a force when it come to getting things going....I hope your as proud of yourselves as I am of you. Lauren and Aralee Cairone did a great job banging out the two beverage carts to keep up despite melting out there. Abby, thanks for rocking the bar (my first time in five years not back there) while I took care of the bistro.

Customer and staff, your the absolute best, it makes the toasty summer worth every second!

Happy Independence Day!

See the special Holiday Hours for our Golf Division, The Wakefield Inn & Restaurant, The Carriage House Bistro & Tavern. We are trying to get our folks out for late celebrations with their families.

A few things, thank you for your patience, all our places are SUPER busy and the kiddos are working very hard and as fast as they can. We appreciate the extra understanding on crazy holiday week.

Also, thanks for dining, golfing and staying with us, you are all what keeps small businesses going when they are at their best or their worst, their craziest or their slowest.

It's a decent day for restaurants and golf but also a great day for backyard BBQ's and playing on the water...please do it safely and responsibly. Don't drink and drive, drink and boat, watch our for our motorcycle friends, in general, just don't be dumb!

Wow, thanks to all our diners we sold over 100 lobster rolls again today at The Carriage House Bistro & Tavern celebrating Wakefield's 250th! Thankfully we have a fresh delivery coming in the morning for our last day of the $15.00 Lobster Roll, Fries and Slaw.

Even a deal isn't a hit without great people supporting it. Thanks to everyone in our great community for turning out so far! One more day to go!

Some restaurant news:

It's no secret that almost every restaurant is dying for quality reliable help and sadly we are no different. One key person calling out throws off your whole dynamic for the night...it's even worse when you have two places and people call out in both.

I'm lucky to have some great folks that are willing to jump and in and go the extra mile when the pieces are not in place. You cringe all night, waiting to hear about long wait times and unhappy guests from your staff that are workin their butts off when your stuck in one spot and unable to move around to help but tonight that wasn't the case.

My thanks tonight to two great teams in each of my locations. Steph and Aralee kicked butt at The Carriage House Bistro & Tavern tonight as we kicked off our restaurant week with $15.00 lobster rolls and the place was hopping. Brooke and I busted out over 100 lobster rolls today and I haven't made so made so many Macaroni and Cheese dishes of every type in forever.

While I was trapped in the The Carriage House Bistro & Tavern kitchen Scott and Hope tackled a busy night at the Wakefield Inn & Restaurant with out my help while Chris and Quinn rocked the kitchen. Everyone there worked together on a busy night to make it happen (their restaurant week is coming up).

So as I was dragging butt at the end of the night, I was prepared to hear the grumbles but both crews were still working hard, in great moods and couldn't speak enough about how fantastic all their CUSTOMERS were.

When you have great guests it makes all the world of difference, for that we are so grateful.

So here is my shout out to two awesome teams and a fantastic community of diners who gave us a great night in not one restaurant, but two. I'm so lucky to have you all, employees and patrons. Tonight's a perfect example of when I say be a good human. Bravo to you all!

Two of our great ladies, Connie Racine and Ginny Ryan have the Mixed League on Thursday up and running and they played despite the blistering heat...Bravo leagues, bravo! Here is a message from the Mixed League about their first week:

Hello everyone,

I'm glad that everyone rode today, it was way too hot & humid to be walking and I'm amazed that so many of us persevered. - great turnout for opening day! For any of you who have missed Ginny's results, wait no longer - she didn't disappoint, here you are:

Well it took three weeks to finally kick off Mixed League, but boy wasn’t it worth the wait? Perfect weather conditions, Hazy, Hot and Humid with a nice compliment of a Deerfly invasion, hopefully it was a good workout for the arms, swatting them away. I’m pretty sure there were a few deerflies on one gentleman’s drive on 10, no way he would shank a drive like that, no need to mention his name!!! Gotcha!! Well, scoring was fun as we needed 2 blind draws and there were card offs for 2nd and 3rd place. I’m being baptized by fire on week one! So I’m going with a thought from last year, there is something good in the water down at Mousam Lake. Nancy Allaire was a superstar this first week. She managed to get a birdie on 14 and C.T.P., 3 feet from the cup. She was on the first place team and the blind draw for the second place team. She also managed to get low gross on a card off and last but not least grabbed 26 Fed Ex points!! Nice job Nancy! I’m moving to Mousam Lake! Now for the results.

Holy Cow Heat Update:

Happy Thursday loves...we are hoping you haven't melted...this heat was brutal and carries on. We hope our Wakefield Inn boys and girls all started a loving relationship with an air conditioner on a cool beach.

The Bistro was jamming and all the kids worked through a warm but bearable kitchen and deserve some kudos for their hard work.

We are expecting some storms to cool off the area tonight and bothy restaurants will be up and running. The bistro already has a great group in gathering for a lunch and we hope to see you at the Wakefield Inn later tonight.

The AC is cranking in both dining rooms and the staff would love to see you.

Thank you all for your support and patience, it means the world to the staff and I.

Call your neighbors, call older friends, make sure no one has overheated. Be a loving human.

Restaurant News:
At the Wakefield Inn we love our old building, even the quirks that come with it. We found out very quickly that our kitchen is an inferno on a good day, last night the temperature hit 109 degrees at one point, not good for service and certainly not good for the well being of my staff. In this day and age you can't afford to break the good ones you have or you're out of luck.

We are putting our heads together to find a way to better circulate the air in the old girl (two air conditioners in the kitchen didn't touch it), but I can't stop worrying about this oppressive heat and what it does to the ones busting their butts in a fiery kitchen....so after overshare and very long story I am closing the Wakefield Inn & Restaurant tonight to be sure everyone is safe and healthy. Thank you for understanding.

The Carriage House Bistro & Tavern has a newer kitchen with better exhaust and will remain open from 12pm to 9pm. The kids have been working hard, despite the heat, to catch up on all the food they ran out of last week (thanks for dining and eating it all up!) and are ready for a great night. If you want to bake like a chicken we even have the patio open, however fair warning, they might just open the door and throw the food at you to stay cool. We have our restaurant weeks plans mapped out for both locations to celebrate Wakefields 250th and will announce them later tonight. There are wine dinners, beer tastings, high tea at noon on the lawn, music and cocktails in the garden, a lobster bake and a few other things coming up the pike for both our restaurants to help celebrate Wakefield's history and it's great citizens. They will also be posted on our two websites, thewakefieldinn.com and thecarriagehousebistro.com for those who don't live on social media like some of us (maybe me) do.
