Myth or Fact: Solar energy creates greenhouse gas emissions.

❌ This is a myth! Here’s why:

While solar energy is not a completely net-zero emissions energy source, it produces far less emissions than energy from fossil fuels. When fossil fuels like coal are burned to produce energy, this emits massive amounts of CO2 into the air, especially when it is at the industrial scale.

Comparatively, the chemical reactions created in photovoltaic cells (solar panels) do not emit any CO2 itself when the energy is generated because it is simply a natural reaction between the material of the cell and the light it gets exposed to.

Despite not having any renewable portfolio standard (RPS), Florida has maintained its spot as the third largest solar market in the US.

In the first half of 2023, Florida shined as the front runner in new solar installations, adding more solar power than any other state in this period.
