Watching the Olympics closing ceremony last night, I was particularly impressed by the piano/ vocal piece featuring French tenor Benjamin Bernheim and Alain Roche playing the vertical piano.
As impressive as the vertical piano was, the music itself was simply stunning. Roche performed a new arrangement of "Hymne à Apollon" (Hymn To Apollo), originally composed by the French composer Gabriel Fauré and debuted at the first Olympic Congress in Paris in 1894. I've not been able to find a video of the Alain Roche version but here's a link to a performance of the original Fauré piece.
