When it comes to creating engaging content, there is so much more that has to go into it that requires effort.
If you want a big business, you have to focus on serving small!
Let me let you in on a few of my go-to, tried and true tips:
⚡️STOP the scroll! You need a captivating image with a matching tagline as the first sentence of your text. If your followers can visualize themselves in your story, they will pause to read on! The pause creates the connection, and connection builds trust.
⚡️If someone is showing up for you, let them know that you are listening. Engagement forces us to slow down, to think about our words, and to interact with those who are processing our content.
⚡️Keep sentences short using italics, ellipsis, or even emojis to keep my followers interested. Pay attention to small details that connect you to them by knowing what your audience gravitates towards the most!
⚡️Show people that when they comment you are going to be there to respond! This creates personal connection between you and the individual follower (remember we are speaking to individuals, not masses). It is the foundation of how relationships are built.
⚡️When you cultivate conversation, think about it as a drip of dopamine: you want to come back for more. That reinforces the followers commenting behavior and increases the likelihood that they will interact the next time you post. It’s not just a post anymore; it’s an opportunity to cultivate community.
⚡️If someone likes, comments, or watches, this is what I call eye contact. If someone is kind enough to check you out, reciprocate! Engage with their account too!

When it comes to content creation this is something that Katy and I LOVEEEEE getting to teach our clients!
We love creating content because we have spent over 10+ years in the online space continually learning, growing, improving our skills, and refining as we go.
But a few things we have learned along the way is this:
💫 Not every day you are going to be super creative, so when you feel inspired grab a notebook and write down all your ideas. (or in the notes section of your phone)
💫 Don’t be afraid to repurpose content that did well in the past. Every day, I check my “memories” on Facebook and see what past captions I can copy, edit, and reuse. This helps give me a bank to pull from.
💫 If you are just downright uninspired and you have nothing. Don’t force it. It’s better to have content that has a purpose than to create “so what” content that will get little to no traction!
But don’t let that “lack of inspiration” be an excuse, you are going to have to dig down and find a way to keep your consistency up! That’s why pulling from older content or that list helps.
Content writing for your social platforms is just like anything that you do for the first time.
It’s wonky and uncomfortable and you don’t always get it right the first or second time.
But the longer you write, take pictures, learn the app's new features, and engage with your audience, the easier it will be!
Don’t give up on marketing on social because the road is just a little rocky! Keep making chic happen friend!

“C’mon Katy. You don’t actually believe that everyone can be successful do you?”
I think I shocked her with my answer.
I guess it’s worth taking a step back and sharing what prompted her seemingly obvious somewhat sarcastic inquiry.
She was a woman who had signed up in a direct sales industry that had over 400,000 distributors.
She was a woman who believed in the products the company offered.
She was a woman watching, observing, and knowing full well that there was the potential of success in the business.

There are 3️⃣ things that you want to look at when it comes to a really great quality post.
1️⃣ SAVES. If your audience is saving your content, this shows that they liked your post so much that they eventually are going to come back and refer to it again.
2️⃣ SHARES. If your audience is sharing your content to stories, this shows that your content resonated enough with them that they are now willing to share it with others. This is HUGE especially when it comes to getting more eyes on your content.
3️⃣ ENGAGEMENT RATE. If your audience is engaging with your post by commenting then that is great! Anything above a 2.5% is pretty amazing. To find your engagement rate on each of your posts, use the following formula: Engagement = (likes + comments) / followers!

Do you have a posting strategy when it comes to Instagram?
Do you wish you had a step-by-step guide on what you should be doing prior to posting? If so, then you are in luck!
This is the exact strategy we follow prior to posting on our account as well as recommend to our clients as well!
Here are our top 5 things to do before posting ⤵️
1️⃣ Be sure that you have a clear and correctly sized image for the Instagram platform. Instagram allows you to post images of any size, however, you want to be extra cautious of this! Sometimes if an image is too large, the top of your head will get cut off. We recommend using a square size image to avoid this altogether.
2️⃣ Your tagline is just as important as your scroll-stopping image! You want to be sure that your audience is captivated by your tagline and will want to read until the very end all the way down to your call to action!
3️⃣ Have well-researched hashtags to put at the end of your caption or in the very first comment of your post (if your caption is too long to fit them!). These hashtags should all be relevant to your image and the caption itself. Be sure to have a mix of different hashtags!
4️⃣ Always be sure to tag your location! This is a great way to get in front of your local audience!
5️⃣ Our best piece of advice is to always post at a peak time for your audience. Every account has a different peak time! Not sure what your exact peak time is? Check out your insights and utilize the information to your advantage.

One of the biggest questions we get especially from our Chic Branding Experience clients is how to grow your following more authentically.
No one likes to send cold invites and guess what… NO ONE LIKES TO RECEIVE THEM EITHER!!
To help you increase your authenticity with your social media followers.
1️⃣ Ask questions that engage your followers that are NOT related to your business in your Instagram stories.
Example: What should I wear for date night tonight? The red dress or the blue dress?
Then, when someone votes you can message them and say thank them for taking the time to vote and be sure to let them know which option you ended up going with! It’s a simple way to start a conversation!
2️⃣ You can find followers not just by hashtags but by engaging with the followers of accounts that you like (not your own industry though).
Example: If you love food bloggers, you can go through their followers, see which ones would be potential ideal clients of yours, and begin by liking 3 posts, leaving at least 2 genuine comments, and following them.
3️⃣ Anytime that a new person follows your account, send a message to connect and thank them for following you and ask how they found you if you don’t already know them!
Remember- social media is meant to be social, which means we as network marketers have to have a give, give, give and then ask approach.

If you want others to take you seriously when it comes to your online business, you have to treat your online business seriously.👋🏼🎤
💣 I get it- it’s an awesome endorphin hit when that post takes off, but if that post doesn’t pay the bill, hiiieeeee ummm
I meaaaaannnn that’s cute and all but....
Here’s a couple of considerations if you want your side gig or main gig to take off:
1️⃣ Your content can’t be about you, but instead how you serve others. 👋🏼🎤
Instead of writing a post with a feel of “look at me,” how can you tweak it to a look at what can be?!
2️⃣ Be consistent with the message you’re conveying. It’s not about just showing up on your social, it’s about showing up consistently with the same message consistently. 👋🏼🎤
3️⃣ Plan your content! Unless you feel a creative spark- plan your content ahead of time with these questions in mind:
💥Is it helpful?
💥Is it hopeful?
💥Is it healing?
And of course, use the results of your content to help you clarify your message and serve your audience!
On a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being the absolute best, how would you rate yourself when it comes to being able to effectively clarify your message?
It feels like you are doing everything right, but your followers just aren’t “buying it”.
You want to make an income, CORRECT?
You want to SEE your hard work pay off and you want to see the investment you’ve made in your business actually make you money.

If you want to “get” people to buy into what you offer, what are you GIVING first?
Every, I mean EVERY social media marketing plan has to LEAD with the give, not the buy "this" from me.
Here’s how we work with our clients when it comes to structuring their marketing:
1️⃣ Connect with your audience. Create a community where your audience WANTS to see you because there is something in it for them well before they purchase a thing.
2️⃣ TRUST is established with time. Your reputation and your credibility are built when you believe that what you have to offer is about how it SERVES others, not how it impacts your wallet.
3️⃣ Ask for them to take action. As a business owner, you want them to act, sign up, join, and/or purchase but we can’t do this until we’ve taken the time to connect and build trust with our audience.

“But Melanie, I don’t have thousands or even hundreds of followers/friends on social media so there’s no way that I can build a successful direct sales business!”
Insert 🙄 because that is NOT TRUE!
Did you know that prior to starting my direct sales business I only ever posted on social media milestones like anniversaries, birth announcements, birthdays, vacations, etc…
I used Facebook to see what my friends from college/high school were up too but nothing more than that!
When I decided to launch my online business and was mentored to start posting multiple times a day on Facebook/Instagram I freaked out a bit!

Although, I realized that if I wanted to grow my business I was going to have to do things I’d never done before. I needed to follow the lead of others who were ahead of me and were seeing success!

Not only does data help your network marketing biz grow but it also measures what isn’t working.
The same goes for your social media insights as well.
Social media data (aka insights) helps you understand your audience AND it tells you how they do things, what they prefer, and who they are (just to name a few)!
These insights help measure the impact of your marketing efforts across different platforms to see if there’s something you need to do differently for example:
🌟Post at a certain time of day
🌟Experiment with a new content format
🌟Increase engagement
And more!
Insights indicate the number of actions that users took on your profile as a result of seeing your post. This doesn’t show how valuable your products are, how well you work, or what you have to offer, so do NOT feel defeated if your insights aren’t where you want them to be!
