The Flies That Bind

Nayat and Squimpish swim baits with some ostrich for a little added action. Tied on one of my favorite hooks ever, the amazing PR 378 on 2/0 and some Riople Ice Fiber blended into the Squimpish and Nayat head to add some depth.

With some inspo for and I tied up one of the awesome squimpish bird fur baitfish patterns in black and purple. This one is on an SA270 in 2/0.

Since I’m going to be tying at the Fly Fishing Show in NJ in January, figured I better dial in my Sand Eel game. These are my first attempt at flat wing style flies, and I dig ‘em!

Sticking with the blue and olive variations….here are some wave tail baitfish. These are tied on an SA280 2/0 with a XXL Pacchiarini wave tail that I colored with markers. The rest of the fly is a combo of , Nayat, and lateral scale. Fun little pattern for sure!

There are so many cool uses for Squimpish Hair. One of my favorite ways is to incorporate it into patterns to add a little extra movement or a cool splash of color. Here, I used some Electric Blue Sparkle Blend in my set of Dodger Blue Billfish Poppers.

Cranked out a set of tube fly billfish poppers for a custom order. These were a blast to tie!

Material prep….it can be a bit tedious but it is such an important step. Prepping materials ahead of time and tying a dozen of each pattern at a time helped me hone in my proportions and consistency like nothing else. I still do it as part of every order I tie, and these material prep stations sure get put to good use.
