DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (or D&D) is a fun game involving mathematics and advanced reading. In this game players take on the role of adventurers engaged in a heroic quest. This game is played as an active story; the players listen to the storyteller, and when it is their turn, they choose what actions their character takes - and roll 7 polyhedral dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, and 100 sides to probabilistically determine the outcomes of their character’s actions using basic math. The story evolves as the players decide what they will do to complete their quest together. Each character has both strengths and weaknesses, and the party of adventurers needs to work together to survive the dangers they will face. This exciting game engages the imagination while building skills in Common Core Standards including English Language Arts and Math; as well as developing crucial skills like public speaking, problem solving, cooperation, and leadership. Most core D&D books measure 1400L on the Lexile measure (1300L or above is the target Lexile measure for students to be ready for college and career in reading). In addition to English Language Arts and Math, the game and materials promote: Research, Citation Creating Graphic Organizers Planning Collaborating, Teamworking Agency, Self-control History themes STEM themes Patience, waiting one’s turn Attention, focus, concentration Thinking critically, problem-solving Speaking-Reading-Writing-Listening Loop for language learners Re-Awakening wonder, creativity and imagination Making new friends And FUN!
