At Treehouse Point, if you’re lost you’re on the right track. But, first, let’s show you to your treehouse. A fun map project we did for our friends up in the Pacific Northwest.

Today, we’re often glued to screens, scrolling (and scrolling…) for inspiration. Here at Farm, we try our best to stay tapped into the physical world, finding inspiration in print media. We find a lot of value in looking through books, magazine, or even in the quirky sites that we stubble upon during our daily grind. Because, let’s face it, some of the coolest ideas don’t come from pixels.

Keep your eyes peeled. Inspiration is hiding in plain sight, just waiting for us to notice. The most profound ideas sprout from the simplest moments.

Food & Beverage logos 2/4.
Now who doesn’t like a good logo inspired by shapes or animals? Better yet… both!

03/10/2023

More logos! This time we are shifting to some CPG (aka: Consumer Packaged Goods) logos we’ve done for various Food and Beverage and Lifestyle clients.

03/07/2023

RESTAURANT logos 4/4.

“There is no place to hide”. A logo is typically front and center. On full display. Left to be vulnerable and scrutinized. That can be scary, but those are the very things that give a logo the ability to have the most impact for a brand to stand out. So, be intentional and consider ALL the details. They will not go unnoticed.

03/07/2023

RESTAURANT logos 3/3.

There are many schools of thought on what makes a good logo. Over the years we have found ourselves being consistent with these design tenets

SIMPLE: A logo should be created with simplicity in mind. Avoid unnecessary elements if they don’t contribute in a meaningful way.
DISTINCTIVE: The function of a logo is about being unique and memorable so that it’s easy to recall in the consumer's mind. Be bold and provocative but practice restraint when necessary.
FAMILIAR: Stay topical with your logo style to hint at what a consumer can expect. As an example, a fine dining experience might feel more elevated with classic elements, whereas a fast-casual may be more playful and disruptive.
FLAVOR: Balance is important with a logo composition. Not only its visual weight, but ‘flavoring’ the style between the logomark and logotype is just as key. All elements should borrow or complement each other in some manner.

03/03/2023

RESTAURANT logos 2/3. We like to think we don’t have a specific style or even a rigid process when we approach our logo designs. Rather, we let the insight gathering we have with our clients to provide informed steps to guide our actions. Simply, no two clients are the same as they all have different beliefs and desire to attract consumers that are right for them.

03/03/2023

Fun fact: Designing logos was what kick-started Farm Design as a legitimate business over 20 years ago. Really?! People will pay us to do what we love? Count us in! Almost all our initial projects were simply a logo request because that was how we saw brands back then. We think very differently today, though logos are key to any brand, they are NOT the brand. We wanted to take a step back from sharing our larger brand systems to just celebrate the wonder of a strong logo. Let’s start with a series of RESTAURANT logos we’ve completed recently. Enjoy!

Inspired by Dieter Rams’ quote, here at Farm, we believe in calibrating our brand thinking to be consumer-centric. Giving brands human-like qualities provides guidance on how we start to shape a brand and make them more relatable to its consumers.

Practicing empathy allows us to keep people at the center of our work. We listen, ask questions, and challenge to best shepherd the creative process with our clients. We think of these moments kind of like good therapy.⚡ We call it Brand Therapy. ⚡This gives brands the opportunity to look inside themselves and truly understand why someone should care, making creative decisions less prescriptive and more human.

With a new year upon us, we decided to switch things up a bit and move from our larger work area to the other end of the office which has more direct sunlight and is a bit cozier. The plants certainly liked this side of the office so we are giving it a try. Literally rubbing shoulders with fellow designers has reminded us that we thrive as collaborators as our shared ideas fuels creativity. Though it might only be a temporary change of scenery, we love trying something new to keep our minds creative and refreshed⚡

In less than a month in this space, we’ve already…

• Explored new packaging and hotel projects together
• Assembled a challenging jigsaw puzzle
• Listened to "Flowers" by Miley Cyrus more times than we can count
• And, worked on more branding projects that we hope to share about soon!

As we get ready to launch our new website, we’ve been looking back at projects we’ve been working on recently. 2022 was full of incredible clients, projects, and creativity, which makes us all the more excited for the opportunities we have in 2023 🎊

“Arriving at a name is really just the beginning. Names are living vessels that collect all of the interactions, experience, and news for your brand.” – Eli Altman

Quotes like this bring great insight to how much power naming can have! Our team always sets out to approach each project to land on names that bring about this kind of depth, and Café Lido was definitely no different 🎉

After strategy and research, we landed on Café Lido, which is Italian for “shore”. The name became the perfect representation of the cross between Mediterranean style and the relaxing poolside distinction of the brand.

Photos from Farm Design's post 12/22/2022

With all the colder weather, we’ve been wishing we could take a summer escape to Café Lido 🌴

When we first began thinking about the brand experience at this café, we took note of wanting it to have a playful, vibrant, and relaxed atmosphere!

Adjectives like this became key to carry throughout the process so we were sure to stay grounded and deliver the same experience across the café and on a variety of touch points!

It’s always important to go back to the basics! And for PRMRY that’s exactly what we did.

Naming a company might seem intimidating at first, but with a strong foundation of brand strategy, vision, and purpose, you will definitely be on the right path!

Take a peek at PRMRY, for example! Primary can be defined as something that stands first in importance or value, which in PRMRY’s case, is the planet 🌎 From this definition, we landed on PRMRY, deriving from the word primary (sans the vowels, of course!). Plus, stripping this word down reminded us of PRMRY’s goal of going back to the basics! ♻️

"Feed the Soil, Not the Plant" has been our mantra since the beginning. Why? In case you didn't know, our founder/creative director grew up on a small rural farm in Montana (population of 300), growing crops with his family. This constant nurturing of the foundation to produce the best product has also guided Farm Design and our company culture. This mindset encourages us to focus on the little things, the celebrations, the challenges, and the collaborative spirit to create things larger than ourselves. If you, too, want to be a grow-getter, we strongly suggest building it from the ground up.

With an opportunity like Terra d’Oro’s, we knew we wanted to capture the depth of their Gold Rush history and their premium quality throughout the entire brand narrative. To do this, we used photography as one of the many tools within our process to communicate the story and emotion behind the brand!

We grabbed our camera and had fun capturing the personality of the brand by playing with light, shadows, and the gold pan✨ We really wanted to show off the label’s unique tactile details that can be discovered in the type, the gold foil and the impression of the vines.

Photos from Farm Design's post 10/19/2022

For more than 150 years, fortune seekers have been lured to California’s rugged Sierra Foothills. Though they once came for the gold, these days they come for the wine. Today, Terra d’Oro is acclaimed for their elegant red wines and aromatic white wines, all crafted from their 800+ acres of sustainably farmed vineyards!

By tapping into this rich history of Terra d’Oro, we were able to enrich the brand by elevating this captivating story. Who wants to take a trip to these vineyards with us? 🥂

Photos from Farm Design's post 10/18/2022

Here at Farm, our team loves being grow-getters, but it’s even more exciting when our clients get to grow with us. In 2018, Terra d’Oro partnered with Farm Design to reimagine their brand by elevating their origin story that took place during California’s Gold Rush. So, we made sure to take the pieces of gold (😉) from our research and strategy to dig up new opportunities within their brand.

From the start, we knew the front label was crucial to get right. Reaching back into Terra d’Oro’s brand history, we used a gold foil-stamped T in the shape of a pickaxe as a bullseye for the consumer. Then, we allowed the elegant illustration of lush grape vines to intertwine and take over from the gold miners, creating a tactile secondary impression.

Swipe to see Terra d’Oro’s new brand and how much they have grown 👉
