Kia Issues "Park Outside" Recall

For Certain 2020-2024 Telluride Vehicles for Fire Risk
Owners should park outside and away from structures until they receive the free repair.

Kia America has issued a “park outside” recall for 462,869 model year 2020-2024 Telluride vehicles because of a risk of fire while parked or driving. The automaker is advising owners to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles and structures until the recall repair has been completed.

Owners can expect to be notified by mail starting July 30 and can contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542. Kia’s number for the recall is SC316.

Vehicle owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number or their license plate to see if their vehicle is part of this recall, or has any other unrepaired recalls. If it does, owners should contact their dealership to schedule a free repair as soon as possible and follow any warnings from the vehicle manufacturer.

Nissan Issues “Do Not Drive” Warning

For Certain 2002-2006 Models with Recalled Takata Air Bags
Vehicle owners are advised not to drive vehicles until they receive the free repair.

Nissan has issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for 83,920 model year 2002-2006 vehicles equipped with recalled, unrepaired Takata air bags. If you have one of these vehicles, do not drive it until the repair is completed and the defective air bag is replaced.

The warning covers certain model year 2002-2006 Nissan Sentra, 2002-2004 Nissan Pathfinder and 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 vehicles.

Vehicle owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is part of this recall, or has any other unrepaired recalls.

NHTSA is urging all vehicle owners to immediately check to see if their vehicle has an open Takata air bag recall. If it does, owners should contact their dealership to schedule a free repair as soon as possible and follow any warnings from the vehicle manufacturer. Nissan and Infiniti are offering free towing, mobile repair, and in select locations, loaner vehicles.

New data shows:

6,218 motorcyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2022, which represents 15% of all traffic fatalities. The fatality rate for motorcyclists was 22 times more than the passenger car occupant fatality rate in 2022, per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.
35% of all motorcycle riders involved in fatal crashes in 2022 were speeding, compared to 22% of all passenger car drivers. Motorcycle riders 21 to 24 years old involved in fatal crashes had the highest speeding involvement at 51% in 2022.Of the 2,254 motorcycle riders who died in single-vehicle crashes in 2022, 42% were alcohol-impaired. Motorcycle helmet use increased among motorcycle riders from 64.9% in 2021 to 66.5% in 2022. Similarly, among motorcycle riders with passengers, helmet use increased: 52.1% in 2021 and 58.3% in 2022.

This is the highest since 1981 when 7,837 pedestrians died in traffic crashes. In 2021 there were an estimated 60,577 pedestrians injured in traffic crashes, an 11% increase from 54,771 pedestrians injured in 2020. On average, a pedestrian was killed every 71 minutes and injured every 9 minutes in traffic crashes in 2021.

Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children, according to the latest NHTSA data. A child is involved in a crash while riding in a passenger vehicle, on average, every 25 seconds. When installed correctly, car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers.
