4 dynamic weeks of FUN! Camp Amaras’ Summer Adventures Camp was filled with a wonderful array of activities, excursions, and esteemed guest appearances that left the kiddos with lasting memories. Our campers engaged in workshops, hands-on experiences and artistic creations through immersive arts and crafts sessions. As participants collaborated on activities, they found new friends and reconnected with past campers. Friendships blossomed and happiness unfolded all summer long! AGBU LA Dance instructor Ms. Taguhi visited Thanksgiving camp for Ghapama and dance lessons! A celebratory dish deserves dancing and our camp kids had fun learning the choreography. So what is the meaning behind this traditional Armenian cuisine? The empty pumpkin is the “bin” in which the past year’s intentions and memories are filled. The fact that Ghapama is prepared “sweet in sweet” also has its own meaning. There are different types of pumpkins but the largest and sweetest one is chosen. Then, in this sweet “bin,” dried fruits, honey, and rice are added symbolizing an abundant life. Lastly, the infamous song popularized by Harout Pamboukjian serenades families as they prepare and enjoy delicious Ghapama. Next up is our Christmas camp on December 23rd.
