The Institute provides leadership development and training that empowers participants to understand community violence and its root causes and create solutions that change the narrative to community empowerment and peace. This Monday Pasadena PD will present another presentation on Shotspotter.They first presented in June and gave a lot of data. We’ve seen these stops too often lead to deadly outcomes for people of color!

As a community we must be aware of the vast array of technology our Police Department is acquiring as they say to keep us safe but others would say to watch our every move. This technology is expensive and must have accountability mechanisms that are transparent and data to match. Last night NAACP Pasadena hosted “Black Pasadena” sponsored by Good Trouble and many leading black organizations around the city, inviting the city manger Miguel Márques and CEO of Rose Bowl Dan Weiden as they learnt about the rich history of African American experience in Pasadena while taking questions from the community. A small start in a long relationship to learn and understand black voices in Pasadena and how making sure we have a seat at the table that produces equity and inclusion in all areas of both their leadership spaces.
