This morning at a press conference outside Pasadena Police Department 3 other officers are now joined with Officer Crutchfield and suing the PPD and the city. Each case is different but all leads to harassment, discrimination, physical assault and being pushed out of the department. Officer Shelby Jarvis, Officer Milton White, Officer Taison Crutchfield and Officer Arthur Robinson who spoke this morning for himself has left the department due to the pressure of the color of his skin. It’s so interesting three of them are community officers and have a great reputation in the community. Their family members spoke for them today calling on the support of the community as BLACK OFFICERS WHO UNDERSTAND THE COMMUNITY ARE BEING ERASED✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

The journey of our 2nd Cohort week 6 Organizing was facilitated by myself 😳 it has taken years of learning and unlearning but to stand before my community and move from teaching from my seat to giving tools and understanding has been a humbling journey that I owe many who have invested in helping me so very much. The Institute is about acquiring tools to invest in our lives and the community. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽 Brotha K-Rahn Flintridge Center

Douglass was invited to address the citizens of Rochester, New York. Whatever the expectations of his audience on the 76th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Douglass used the occasion not to celebrate the nation’s triumphs but to remind all of its continuing enslavement of millions of people.
A portion of Douglass’s speech is below:
Mr. President, Friends, and Fellow Citizens: He who could address this audience without a quailing sensation, has stronger nerves than I have. I do not remember ever to have appeared as a speaker before any assembly more shrinkingly, nor with greater distrust of my ability, than I do this day. A feeling has crept over me, quite unfavorable to the exercise of my limited powers of speech. The task before me is one which requires much previous thought and study for its proper performance. I know that apologies of this sort are generally considered flat and unmeaning. I trust, however, that mine will not be so considered. Should I seem at ease, my appearance would much misrepresent me. The little experience I have had in addressing public meetings, in country schoolhouses, avails me nothing on the present occasion.
The papers and placards say, that I am to deliver a 4th [of] July oration. This certainly sounds large, and out of the common way, for it is true that I have often had the privilege to speak in this beautiful Hall, and to address many who now honor me with their presence. But neither their familiar faces, nor the perfect gage I think I have of Corinthian Hall, seems to free me from embarrassment.
The fact is, ladies and gentlemen, the distance between this platform and the slave plantation, from which I escaped, is considerable—and the difficulties to be overcome in getting from the latter to the former, are by no means slight.

THIS story is complex but has many levels that we as a community want deescalation from our officers in the community but when a young officer who was raised in our community stands up and says that is not right that officer is disciplined to the degree that their job is on the line. What message does that send to other young people in our community who want to apply and understand the community✊🏿✊🏽✊🏾

This Friday community discusses a topic that touches us all✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽 DayOne Pasadena Anthony Portantino
As a community we must be aware of the vast array of technology our Police Department is acquiring as they say to keep us safe but others would say to watch our every move. This technology is expensive and must have accountability mechanisms that are transparent and data to match. SHOTSPOTTER which watch’s NW Pasadena only has not kept us safe or made arrests or stopped violence the data shows another VERY EXPENSIVE YEARLY technology equipment that has fallen short✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽.
・・・
Dena Council Update: In a recent council meeting, the high costs and significant failures of the ShotSpotter technology employed by the Pasadena Police Department are discussed, as well as other expensive and ineffective tools purchased by Pasadena PD, whose evaluations reviews are overdue.
June 1st APPLY! ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
