Every now and again I book a photo shoot to capture moments of my life ๐Ÿ“ธ

Most of you know, just over a year ago I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease. A disorder of the immune system that causes the thyroid gland to make too much thyroid hormone โ€” a condition called hyperthyroidism ๐Ÿฆ  This condition eats at your body and slowly eats away at your muscle ๐Ÿ˜“

Along with this, the effects of being a middle-aged woman started creeping its way into my life in the form of perimenopause ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ I thought I was loosing my mind ๐Ÿคฏ

The more I research and learn, the more I realize I am not alone. I want to share my knowledge and help others navigate through these difficult times ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

How did I face adversity? I started to focus on the things I could control. My nutrition, my sleep, and my relationships became top priority ๐Ÿ”

Dialing in those 3 departments of my life really started to make an impact. It's what made the change.

Member spotlight ๐Ÿšจ and BIRTHDAY ๐Ÿฅณ ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽŠ shoutout to this guy right here Taylor Poage ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

This amazing human set out a mission to get as lean and jacked as he could by his 40th birthday (which is today by the way) and boy did he accomplish his goal!! ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ˜†

He's been working out for over 20 years and has been Crossfitting for the last 10, but has been just shy of reaching his aesthetic goal (see pic 1) ๐Ÿคณ๐Ÿผ

So in November 2023, he came to me for some guidance ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ We did a body scan and talked about nutrition. We tweaked his macros and look at him today (see pic 2)!!

In only 4 months, he lost 6.2% body fat (which is roughly 15 lbs of fat loss)!! โš–๏ธ

He kept his workouts the same and only changed his diet!! It's amazing what discipline, hard work and dedication can do ๐Ÿค—

Kiyomi is 71 years young ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿผ and has been working with me for approximately one month ๐Ÿ“†

She has zero experience in exercise and just walks๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธwith some occasional gardening ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŒพ for activity. She recently had a cancer scare and also has a lot knee joint pain ๐Ÿšซ

I've been seeing her 2๏ธโƒฃx per week and we've slowly been working on range of motion as well as mind/body awareness to address how to proper brace her center of balance โš–๏ธ

Why I take progress pictures ๐Ÿค”

Born: 1978
Height: 5'3"
Weight: ~120lbs

Muscle mass: ~54lbs
Body fat %: ~20%

In 2023, I battled Graves' disease ๐Ÿ‘พ It's an auto-immune disease of the thyroid gland that causes you to overproduce thyroid hormones. It ate at my body and made me weak. I officially went into remission December 2023 ๐Ÿฅณ

While this was going on, I started to feel the effects of Perimenopause ๐Ÿฅบ My hormones, along with my thyroid were attacking me ๐Ÿ˜ญ and I needed to take control of my body ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Since then, I've vowed to take better care of myself. I started to closely monitor my nutrition, and make sure that I am active daily ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Nutrition is key ๐Ÿ”‘ in fighting the signs of aging ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿผ

My movement ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป:
โ€ข I lift weights 5-6x a week ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

It doesn't happen overnight and it gets harder as we age ๐Ÿ˜” but it IS achievable ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Discipline trumps motivation ... so showing up even when you're not motivated is what counts ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ

My results are from years of consistency and discipline. When I don't workout, I don't feel like myself. Off days are hard for me, so I add in active recovery movement to keep my spirits up ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

We started a 5๏ธโƒฃ week nutrition challenge at the beginning of November ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ

The purpose of the challenge was to keep us all accountable through the holidays with mindful eating as well as staying active throughout ๐Ÿฆพ

Little did I know how many useful tips and recipes I would learn from the other members ๐Ÿค— I've forged a new friendship with my accountability partner ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ

Over the 5๏ธโƒฃ weeks, I lost 1% body fat and gained 2 pounds of muscle ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ My wonderful partner also lost 1% of body fat and gained 1.8 pounds of muscle ๐Ÿ˜†

Biggest takeaway is logging your food!! You don't really know until you keep track and logging your food is so important if you want to see results ๐Ÿ“Š

Everyone wants them, but how do we really get them ๐Ÿค”

Having a strong and well-trained core allows you to safely stabilize your spine and torso during functional movements, ultimately contributing to a healthier lower back, reduced risk of injury during activity, and overall improved health and well-being ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

The only way they can be revealed ๐Ÿ‘€ is by bringing your body fat levels low enough ๐Ÿ“‰

These are two entirely separate goals ๐Ÿคฏ

Unfortunately, genetics also play a large role in where you store body fat ๐Ÿ˜”

Key strategies in helping to reveal those abs ๐Ÿ”‘:

๐Ÿ”น Get at least 7 hours of sleep
๐Ÿ”น Eliminate processed foods and consume lean protiens, fruits and vegetables
๐Ÿ”น Drink plenty of water, eliminate sugary drinks

Nutrition is a big role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Guidelines in regards to meal plans are available on a request basis. Each workout is catered to the individual client with the client's goals and needs in mind. Workouts will incorporate strength training as well as metabolic conditioning to emphasize body fat loss and overall toning.

I train out of trainer-only gyms in the Pasadena and San Marino.

No membership fees are required, and you have full access to all equipment without the crowds of your standard chain gyms. Extra perks included are a spot-free and clean environment, filtered water and clean towels.
