Most of you know, just over a year ago I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease. A disorder of the immune system that causes the thyroid gland to make too much thyroid hormone โ a condition called hyperthyroidism ๐ฆ This condition eats at your body and slowly eats away at your muscle ๐
Along with this, the effects of being a middle-aged woman started creeping its way into my life in the form of perimenopause ๐ตโ๐ซ I thought I was loosing my mind ๐คฏ
The more I research and learn, the more I realize I am not alone. I want to share my knowledge and help others navigate through these difficult times ๐ซถ๐ผ
How did I face adversity? I started to focus on the things I could control. My nutrition, my sleep, and my relationships became top priority ๐
Dialing in those 3 departments of my life really started to make an impact. It's what made the change.

This amazing human set out a mission to get as lean and jacked as he could by his 40th birthday (which is today by the way) and boy did he accomplish his goal!! ๐ฏ๐
He's been working out for over 20 years and has been Crossfitting for the last 10, but has been just shy of reaching his aesthetic goal (see pic 1) ๐คณ๐ผ
So in November 2023, he came to me for some guidance ๐บ๏ธ We did a body scan and talked about nutrition. We tweaked his macros and look at him today (see pic 2)!!
In only 4 months, he lost 6.2% body fat (which is roughly 15 lbs of fat loss)!! โ๏ธ

Kiyomi is 71 years young ๐ต๐ผ and has been working with me for approximately one month ๐
She has zero experience in exercise and just walks๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธwith some occasional gardening ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ for activity. She recently had a cancer scare and also has a lot knee joint pain ๐ซ

In 2023, I battled Graves' disease ๐พ It's an auto-immune disease of the thyroid gland that causes you to overproduce thyroid hormones. It ate at my body and made me weak. I officially went into remission December 2023 ๐ฅณ
While this was going on, I started to feel the effects of Perimenopause ๐ฅบ My hormones, along with my thyroid were attacking me ๐ญ and I needed to take control of my body ๐๐ผ
Since then, I've vowed to take better care of myself. I started to closely monitor my nutrition, and make sure that I am active daily ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ
Nutrition is key ๐ in fighting the signs of aging ๐ต๐ผ
My movement ๐๐ป:
โข I lift weights 5-6x a week ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
โข I run 3-8 miles, 2-3x a week ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐จ
โข I walk a minimum of 30-40 minutes everyday ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธ
My daily macros ๐ฅฉ๐ฅ:
โข Calories: ~2,000 - 2,400
โข Protein: 140-180g
โข Carbs: 120-140g
โข Fat: 70-80g

I wanted to go on a run ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ this morning through beautiful wine country, but the rain ๐ง๏ธ quickly thwarted those plans ๐ So I went to the hotel gym and ran a 5k on the treadmill (which I hate) and did a quick lifting session ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
My results are from years of consistency and discipline. When I don't workout, I don't feel like myself. Off days are hard for me, so I add in active recovery movement to keep my spirits up ๐๐ผ
How are you keeping yourself motivated now that the year is coming to an end? ๐ฃ๏ธ

I love that I work in an environment that promotes this type of healthy behavior ... anything to take them away from electronic devices ๐ฑ๐ฎ
They see me working out ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ along with all the other strong ๐ช๐ผ men and women at the gym and it's leaving an imprint on them, whether they know it or not ๐๐ผ
We started a 5๏ธโฃ week nutrition challenge at the beginning of November ๐๐๐
The purpose of the challenge was to keep us all accountable through the holidays with mindful eating as well as staying active throughout ๐ฆพ
Little did I know how many useful tips and recipes I would learn from the other members ๐ค I've forged a new friendship with my accountability partner ๐ฏโโ๏ธ
Over the 5๏ธโฃ weeks, I lost 1% body fat and gained 2 pounds of muscle ๐ช๐ผ My wonderful partner also lost 1% of body fat and gained 1.8 pounds of muscle ๐
Biggest takeaway is logging your food!! You don't really know until you keep track and logging your food is so important if you want to see results ๐

Everyone wants them, but how do we really get them ๐ค
Having a strong and well-trained core allows you to safely stabilize your spine and torso during functional movements, ultimately contributing to a healthier lower back, reduced risk of injury during activity, and overall improved health and well-being ๐๐ผ
The only way they can be revealed ๐ is by bringing your body fat levels low enough ๐
These are two entirely separate goals ๐คฏ
Unfortunately, genetics also play a large role in where you store body fat ๐
Key strategies in helping to reveal those abs ๐:
๐น Get at least 7 hours of sleep
๐น Eliminate processed foods and consume lean protiens, fruits and vegetables
๐น Drink plenty of water, eliminate sugary drinks
๐น Move regularly and use resistance training to build muscle ๐ช๐ผ
This is your reminder to enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas and any special occasion ... eat all the food ๐๐ฅง your heart desires ๐ซถ๐ผ
Just don't treat the entire month or end of the year as an excuse to eat poorly ๐๐ผ thinking you can make up for it come later ๐

Why does any of this matter ๐ค
You'll notice that over the last 4๏ธโฃ months ๐๏ธ, I've been gaining overall weight ๐ฎ
That may scare a lot of people when just looking at the total number ๐ฑ
But if you dig deeper ... you'll see that I have lost 3% of body fat and have gained 4.4 pounds of muscle ๐ค
Progressive overload training ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ and a diet high in protein ๐ฅฉ๐ณ๐๐ฃ has helped me get to where I am ๐ฅณ

Nutrition is a big role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Guidelines in regards to meal plans are available on a request basis. Each workout is catered to the individual client with the client's goals and needs in mind. Workouts will incorporate strength training as well as metabolic conditioning to emphasize body fat loss and overall toning.
I train out of trainer-only gyms in the Pasadena and San Marino.
No membership fees are required, and you have full access to all equipment without the crowds of your standard chain gyms. Extra perks included are a spot-free and clean environment, filtered water and clean towels.
