Glad we could help! Excited to watch it grow 😁🐝
What native pollinators have you seen on your pollinator plants??
We have seen dozens of different bee species, as well as flies, butterflies, moths and even hummingbirds!
Did you know that Ohio is home to 500 different bee species?? 😳🐝
Mason bees, mining bees, leaf cutting bees and sweat bees are just a few of the most common types you’ll find around your garden 🐝
Our pollinators are LOVING our wild bergamot right now 😍
Swipe to see a 3 year transformation 👉
We planted this prairie in 2021 with our leftover plants, and now, just 3 years later it is absolutely gorgeous!
We planted it in a matrix style made of mostly purple coneflower, prairie coneflower, wild bergamot, royal catchfly and stiff goldenrod with Bicknell’s sedge intermixed. We also have a few butterfly milkweeds, phlox, prairie dock, and rattlesnake master mixed in as well in smaller numbers.
This is one of our best prairies! The plants exploded the first 2 years, and have calmed down significantly this year, looking more blended together with seedlings growing up in between the original plants.
We converted this area from sod to prairie using a large silage tarp. After laying for a few months, killing the grass, we removed it to find a clean slate ready for planting. While it is more expensive (labor and money) to plant a prairie using potted plants, it sure does speed up the process and results in a beautiful native prairie.
We feel pretty lucky to have this in our front yard. The bunnies like it too 🐰
Do you have any questions about our process??

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Happy Pollinator Week!!
Pollinators are SO important! In Ohio, we have bees, butterflies, birds, beetles, flies, moths, and so many more that pollinate our flowers, trees, shrubs, and crops. Apples, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, almonds, chocolate, coffee, and more are available to us because a pollinator pollinated a flower! Did you know that approximately 75% of our fruits, nuts, and vegetables that we eat are thanks to a bee pollinator? Without them, we would not have a lot of the foods that we love.
How can you help pollinators? Plant native plants! Habitat and food sources are so important for pollinators, or any wildlife. Native plants are best for attracting native pollinators. You can grow a beautiful garden in your yard full of gorgeous, colorful, fragrant native plants, and have a yard buzzing with pollinators and teeming with life!
If you are trying to attract a specific pollinator, look into finding out their host plant. A host plant is a plant used by an insect to lay eggs on, and that species' larva feed exclusively on that plant. For example, Monarch butterflies only lay eggs on a Milkweed plant, and their caterpillars munch only on Milkweed leaves. In the Monarch's case, the Milkweed actually makes the caterpillars toxic and taste bad to predators. How cool is that?
A few more examples include the Zebra Swallowtail and the Paw Paw tree, the Great Spangled Fritillary and Violets, the Dogbane Beetle and Dogbane, and the Spicebush Swallowtail and the...you guessed it, Spicebush!
Enjoy pollinator week and celebrate by planting a native plant and learning about pollinators! Another fun thing to do is just go outside and find a flower and watch it for 5-10 minutes. See how many pollinators show up and which kinds!
