Videos by Birney's Miracle Farm Market in Pataskala. We offer a wide variety of fresh vegetables grown here on our family owned farm.
One of the most asked questions we get is "what do you do with all of your time off in the off season?" Contrary to popular belief, farming is a year round job. Here are some of the things we've done since we closed the stand for the season. We picked off all of the leftover tomatoes and sweet peppers for the food pantry. Built a new greenhouse and put plastic on the new and old greenhouses. (thanks to everyone who helped with this, it was a huge job!) Dug drainage ditches and installed new drainage tile for the greenhouses. Some awesome friends taught Caren how to can tomatoes and salsa! We mowed down all of the fields, lifted and rolled all of the plastic. Hauled hay for the cows (Caren's uncle taught her how to pull the hay wagon on the road with round bales on it 😬) Power washed and winterized all of the equipment, and will make any necessary repairs. In November, we took a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We got see some of Caren's cousins that we haven't seen since 2017, and her aunt that we haven't seen since 2018! We also took the kids to Legoland FL and the beach for a few days. While in Florida, we drove around and looked at several strawberry fields. In the south, their strawberry season is totally opposite of ours, and they are currently in their harvest season! We covered all the strawberries for winter with row covers or straw. Then fixed row covers and put out more straw when the wind shredded a set of covers a few weeks ago when it was 8° out 🥶. We participated in the Main Street Pataskala Cookie Walk. Eric and his dad installed the heater in the new greenhouse. We've gotten to visit family and friends that we don't get to see much during harvest. We've made all of the field layout maps for this season. Next we will start on seed orders, and pick up all of our growing supplies. We will start in the greenhouse in just a few weeks!!! #Pataskalafarm #localgrown #shoplocal #birneysfarm#knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom
