October is Breast Cancer and Liver Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. It can occur in men as well, but this is very rare.

Liver cancer is more likely to occur if you are a man, work with herbicides or other caustic chemicals, smoke, are obese, Asian American or a Pacific Islander, have diabetes, abuse anabolic steroids, or have metabolic diseases or other rare diseases which facilitate liver cancer.

Pay attention to your body and get regular checkups. Call us to schedule your annual physical!

Cervical cancer is a disease in which cancer cells arise in the cervix. HPV (Human papillomavirus) is frequently the cause of cervical cancer, which is why vaccines against the virus are an important part of cervical cancer prevention strategies. HPV is an STD that does not cause symptoms for many people. It is thought up to 50% of sexually active people will have HPV at some point in their lives. Not everyone with HPV will develop cervical cancer, but routine screening is key. Pap tests can detect precancerous conditions of the cervix and should be repeated every 3 years in most cases. HPV tests can detect the virus. Prevention and early detection save lives!
