“Today is, and always has been, an emotional day for me celebrating the amazing life that my grandfather, my Papa, created and lived to the fullest. His care he received during his end of life was something extraordinary. The angel hospice nurses that surrounded him and gave their everything to make his final wishes come true was unwavering. They are who pushed me for this career. This is what I knew I was destined to do.

Today, I got to give that back. Celebrating 15 years of a nurse myself this year, I have found my calling exactly where this all began, working in hospice.
I have been caring for the most wonderful woman for so so many months, who happens to be a retired army nurse who served in WWil herself. She asked for something so simple. Ginger ice cream. Never, ever, would I have thought this was a thing, so I simply put out a request to North Shore Eats trying to find where I could locate this for her. After an outpouring of love, the recommendations just kept coming!
I would like to give the biggest shoutout to Holy Cow Ice Cream for making this happen today. They had not made this flavor before, but they made this their mission this week to do something above and beyond and named the flavor in honor of her and her service. “Ginger Valor” is what their team collaborated on and it could not be more fitting. The dedication to this little veteran today was just a small testament to this outstanding company and what they do for our community on a daily basis.

Today we sat during a visit and reminisced about her experiences during the war, leaving it with “once a nurse, always a nurse.” Huge smiles all around, and for those moments, she didn’t get to think of her illness or the end approaching. It was absolutely delicious and her face lit up like she was a little girl all over again. This experience today, makes me love what I do. Thank you all again so
much. This one will stick with me forever”
