I honestly wasn’t sure if it would work out; opening a coffee shop while the world was still recovering from a pandemic was scary especially after we closed our first one right before similar stores were told to lock down in 2020. Let me share how it started…

While stationed in North Carolina we opened In His Presence Coffee, Books & More in 2019. A super cute shop with specialty coffee, books, and a space for children to play while the parents enjoyed their coffee and bakery items. It had the cutest Red Door ever!

Nine months later we closed (it felt like the right thing to do) little did we know that just two months later the government called for full shut down.

Talk about God’s favor and guidance!

Then we decided to move from North Carolina, we looked at homes in Florida and all over Georgia. We ended up in Georgia and what an awesome decision. We moved in February of 2021 and opened Rooted Café August of 2021.

Almost two years! I think we need to celebrate 🎉🎊

Two years later, there are still people that come through our doors every day for the first time looking for the specialty coffee experience.

You know… the one that honors and highlight the natural flavors of coffee always freshly roasted and brewed with pride and excellence and we absolutely love it.

We love learning more about coffee to share with you.

We love when you brew your own coffee at home because you felt empowered by our team.

We love when you share us with your friends and family. Meeting some over the summer was a highlight.

… we love to be the space you chose to stop by and grab a cup of coffee and a small bite by yourself or with a friend.

In the rush of it all and we pause to take it all in and our hearts explode!

Today one of our original team members- 2 years with us is leaving for college. She is going to UGA Athens campus for Entertainment and Media Studies. We will miss her so much! Looking forward to her coming back next summer. .prindle

On site… a crucial step in the coffee process. Observing and pruning the coffee plants. the plants are getting ready for the next picking season that starts very soon. Take a look of the gorgeous mountain with perfect levels of humidity. Arabica coffee plants are happy in those temperatures. Interesting fact: not all of the cherries will be ready at the same time making the picking process by hand extensive and arduous. Much respect to the farmers.

Rest of Summer New Hours 🚨! Monday to Friday 7AM-2PM Saturday 9AM-2PM. Our team will be enjoying the last of the season vacations including our boss lady traveling to Puerto Rico and visit a coffee farm! Will be sharing all about it!

When asked what’s our favorite part of Rooted we all agree: people and community! Coffee brings people together. Some walk in strangers and leave with new connections and friendships. We are here for all of it. 📸

A well-balanced body contributes to the overall enjoyment of the coffee, complementing its flavor and aroma to create a harmonious tasting experience.

One of the first things people see when enjoying their cup of coffee is the mural. Painted by hand by two local artists; shows the process of coffee from pollination to retail bags and brewed to your preference. Have you seen it? 📸

From the Owner’s corner at Rooted… I love books, I collect piles of books, in fact… books are the hardest for me to let go. This one Spill the Beans by Lani Kingston tells the story of coffee with such cultural exploration that showcases how coffee helps binds us together. Come check it out on one of our tables while enjoying your favorite coffee drink. 📸

“Third places” … a term coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg and refers to places where people spend time between home ('first' place) and work ('second' place). They are locations where we exchange ideas, have a good time, and build relationships. At Rooted we are thankful to be one of your favorite third places.

From the owners’ desk…

Impactful mission is at the core of Independent local business owners.

The mission (the why) is clearly written on the business plan, website, and marketing material. As time goes on, the attention or the “sharing” about it takes a bottom row on the long list of things to do.

Yesterday our assistant manager text me: “we need to share about our mission… it sets us apart”.

At Rooted our mission is to raise awareness and fight human trafficking and exploitation. The coffee industry is not untouched by the crimes of human trafficking. Coffee farmers and producers are extremely vulnerable to human labor exploitation.

What are we doing?
✔️ partnering with roasters that only purchase fairly trade coffee at and above fair trade value.
✔️making connections with coffee farmers, producers, importers that believe in making impact by taking care of the farmers and their communities. Creating those connections ensure we continue sourcing fairly trade once we start roasting
✔️we take care of our team members, offering them wages that increase as our business grow, introducing benefits, and making them part of our growth.

We believe that impact starts at the foundation, we start with the farmer and the Rooted team members, we serve with purpose and intention, we engage in the community and partner with foundations fighting human trafficking.
