The CoQ10-Statin Secret
Ronald Grisanti D.C., D.A.B.C.O., D.A.C.B.N., M.S.

The medical literature clearly shows that statin medications like Lipitor,Crestor, Zocor shut down the production of one of the most important nutrients in the body. And I am referring to Co-Enzyme Q10 (CoQ10).

What many people are unaware of is the fact that when CoQ10 is depleted it causes the LDL cholesterol to become oxidized. This in turn sets off a cascade of events making the LDL cholesterol drill holes in the arterial wall causing major inflammation. This inflammation sets you up for an increased risk of getting a heart attack or stroke.

This a major reason why taking statins drugs is no guarantee you will not die of a heart attack.

I have to admit I am at a total loss why any doctor would prescribe a statin medication without adding the life-saving CoQ10. This may be hard to swallow (excuse the pun) but it should be illegal to prescribe a statin without also prescribing CoQ10.

The following list of health challenges should be a wake up call for people who believe they are safe taking statins without CoQ10. CoQ10 deficiency can cause fatal cardiomyopathy, heart attack, congestive heart failure (which usually carries a death sentence of 5 years), exhaustion, cancer, myopathy, depression resistant to anti-depressants, high blood pressure, gum disease and tooth loss, hair loss, liver disease, sudden complete memory loss or amnesia, cataracts, angina, cancer, folic acid deficiency, damaged cell membranes, and much more.

In fact, it not only increases you from getting a variety of diseases but low CoQ10 levels predict that you can die within 6 months.

So you can see that any doctor who prescribes a statin medication then turns you loose without also prescribing CoQ10 shows lack of scientific knowledge of the very drug he is authorized to prescribe. Take a look at the wealth of scientific references listed below.

Now if you think I am being a bold about what I have just shared with you please understand that this is serious.

Here is something that will shock many of you. Back in 1990s, the pharmaceutical giant, Merck, decided to add CoQ10 to a statin medication. They even went so far as to get a patent. The patent number is 4,933,165. Go ahead and download the patent document:
http://www.functionalmedicineuniversity.com/statin-CoQ10.pdf

So you may ask why in the world would they produce a statin with CoQ10 and the answer is quite obvious. They knew the seriousness of selling the world on statins without CoQ10.

Now you may be thinking whatever happened to this drug. Well it never came to the marketplace. Not sure why but again they wouldn't have created this combination statin-CoQ10 drug if they were not warned of the serious consequences of promoting a statin without CoQ10.

Hmmm.. makes me very suspicious...

If you are on a statin medication, I urge you to insist that your doctor checks your CoQ10 levels. You can easily have this done by getting an CardioION test which includes a direct test for CoQ10 and a more sensitive test called hydroxymethylglutarate. This is an organic acid assay which will show you if a particular dose is high enough for your body.

One of my favorite CoQ10 sources is sublingual so it spares you one more capsule to ingest. Q-ODT (oral dissolving tablet) is 80 mg easily absorbed under the tongue. Here is a good product you can order from Amazon from the company Intensive Nutrition, Inc. - Q-ODT Coenzyme Q10 80 mg. - 30 Tablets

Depression: Why You May Be Suffering.: Part 1
Ronald J. Grisanti D.C., D.A.B.C.O.,D.A.C.B.N., MS

Depression is considered the most dreaded condition of mankind. What makes depression so awful? Well.. it is the one disease devoid of hope in the minds of many who suffer with this global epidemic.

Unlike debilitating diseases like arthritis, which shows it's ugly face by causing pain, depression is a silent enemy afflicting millions every year.

The pharmaceutical industry offers "patch up" treatment at best via anti-depressants. What in the world is going on? I have yet to see one television drug commercial selling Zoloft or any of the other anti-depressants offering the public the "real" causes behind this mind altering disease. Matter of fact, the causes of depression are so well documented that I have a hard time believing why people are being left in the dark.

My goal in this report and the reports to follow, is to prepare and educate you on all your options. Mind you, these are not original thoughts on the subject of depression or the many disease articles to follow, but are in fact documented peer-reviewed research proving the existence of a world of information kept under "lock and key" contributing to a sea of suffering and mental anguish.

You will discover information that will change your life and the life of your family and friends. You will be delighted to know that there is hope and your hope will be found by your pursuit for the truth. I promise to provide information that you can take to the bank as the "gospel" truth. No stone has been left un-turned. I invite you to research my research.

It is only fair to say that my reports are subject to criticism by the pharmaceutical establishment or anybody unwilling to review my "solid" references. Do you really think that a multi-billion business is going to provide all your options? Well, you will be waiting for a long.. long time if you really think you will be fed the absolute truth on a silver platter.

Now, I realize I may be stepping on a few toes by being so forthright and bold, but the truth is the truth. My 33 years in private practice has afforded me the opportunity to see thousands of people led astray only to come crashing down in a sea of mis-information resulting in a life of misery and suffering.
Before I begin, I want to say this..

World.. Wake Up!

There is more information on how to get well than meets the eye and you have simply been fed a bag of lies and deception.. Stop believing these billion drug ads and wake up to the truth..

Get ready to be inspired!

Depression is a national and global epidemic. Just in the United States alone there are over 12 million people who suffer with depression and that number is rising at an alarming rate. The costs to the American public are enormous.

You need to be an informed consumer and most important you need a physician who will work with as you as you systematically uncover the causes of your health challenges and for the sake of this report... your depression. Simply masking your sickness with medication is not the solution. You must seek out a physician who will take the time to read the information you bring them. Do not fall for the line that they are too busy to read. This is your physician's business. Your health is their bread and butter. If your physician is too busy to grow and learn in their chosen field, you can do a lot better elsewhere. Your physician owes it to you to know as much as possible about your disease or health condition. It is your physician's duty to keep learning. If your physician refuses to read the information in this report or any of my past or future articles then they are saying that they are as smart as they ever will be. In other words... your physician already knows it all.. They are never going to grow any further. They are closed to learning.

Don't ever let anyone intimidate you to stop looking for the causes of your illness. Life is much too short and it is time to take the reins by the hand and get cracking.

The following is one of a few common causes of depression. If you want to get better and bring happiness and joy back into your life, then you owe it to yourself to be absolutely certain that you have each of the following causes thoroughly checked.

The bottom line is... unless your physician has ruled out all the potential causes which I will soon present, then you have not been thoroughly evaluated.

Here is the first area you need to have checked:

Depression and Thyroid Function

Approximately 10%-15% of patients with depression have a thyroid hormone deficiency. Now I must emphasize to you that the testing of your thyroid MUST include the following:

•Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
•Free serum thyroxine (fT4)
•Free triiodothyroine (fT3)
•Reverse T3 (rT3)
•Anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (anti-TG)
•Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO)

Anything less than this is simply unacceptable.

It is well documented that the evaluation of only TSH is inadequate as a means of testing your thyroid. If you have been told by your physician that your thyroid is fine and have not had the above tests ordered, then think again.. your physician DOES NOT have all the facts. Unless your physician is attempting to diagnosis you with a crystal ball, then demand that she order the most comprehensive thyroid panel.

Obtaining a comprehensive thyroid panel is essential to rule thyroid as a possible cause of depression. The medical literature has discovered a link between low T3 and long-standing depression. In fact the common treatment of hypothyroidism with Synthroid (a T4-only thyroid medication) may be contributing to an increase in depressive symptoms due to it's inability to address a deficient T3.

A comprehensive thyroid panel will also test the possibility of you suffering from a thyroid auto-immune/depression syndrome. The medical literature has found women with high levels of anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies to be more vulnerable to depression. A recent German study concluded that "in cases of repeated depressive episodes, it seems necessary not only to get lab testing for TSH, T3, and T4 but also to assess the autoimmune status of the thyroid gland (autoantibodies)."

As you have read, it is CRITICAL that you ask your physician to do a comprehensive thyroid panel. DO NOT settle for a TSH test alone. The cause of your depression just may be found with a thyroid problem.

Remember, my goal is to provide you with all your options. I am committed to helping you become an informed and well-educated consumer of health care issues. The more you know and more important, the more you understand, about your condition, the greater potential of you getter better and gaining a new lease on life.

Are You Suffering with Estrogen Dominance? Learn The Facts

Estrogen is not a single hormone. It is a class of hormones and hormone like compounds that have estrogenic properties.

There are human estrogens, animal estrogens, synthetic estrogens, phytoestrogens, and xenoestrogens.

The three human estrogens are estradiol, estrone, and estriol, and belong to the steroid hormone family.

"Estrogen dominance" is a term coined by Harvard physician John R. Lee M.D. It describes a condition where a woman can have deficient, normal, or excessive estrogen but the body has little or no progesterone to balance its effects. Signs and symptoms of estrogen dominance include:
•Speeds up the aging process
•Weight gain around middle
•Allergies
•Autoimmune disorders
•Breast cancer
•Breast tenderness
•Cold hands and feet as a symptom of thyroid dysfunction
•Decreased s*x drive
•Muscle and joint pain
•Depression
•Dry eyes
•Early onset of menstruation
•Uterine cancer
•Fat gain in abdomen, hips, and thighs
•Fatigue
•Fibrocystic breasts
•Foggy thinking
•Hair loss
•Headaches
•Hypoglycemia
•Increased blood clotting
•Infertility
•Irregular menstrual periods
•Insomnia
•Memory loss
•Mood swings
•PMS
•Ovarian cysts
•Pre-menopausal bone loss
•Sluggish metabolism
•Thyroid dysfunction
•Uterine cancer
•Uterine fibroids
•Water retention and bloating
Causes of Estrogen Dominance Syndrome

Besides the natural hormonal fluctuations of menopause, certain lifestyle choices and conditions can also contribute to estrogen dominance syndrome, especially a low-fiber diet, overloading the liver with internal toxins, and absorbing toxins from the environment.

Overloading the Liver

The liver is a filter of sorts. It detoxifies our body, protecting us from the harmful effects of chemicals, elements in food, environmental toxins, and even natural products of our metabolism, including excess estrogen.

Anything that impairs liver function or ties up the detoxifying function will result in excess estrogen levels, whether it has a physical basis, as in liver disease, or an external cause, as with exposure to environmental toxins, drugs, or dietary substances.

•Estrogen is produced not only internally but also produced in reaction to chemicals and other substances in our food. When it is not broken down adequately, higher levels of estrogen build up.

In like manner, the estrogen dominance syndrome can be evoked in women by too much alcohol, drugs, or environmental toxins, all of which limit the liver's capacity to cleanse the blood of estrogen.

Environment

We live in an estrogenic or feminizing environment. Certain chemicals in the environment and our foods, one of which is DDT, cause estrogenic effects. Although banned in 1972, DDT, like its breakdown product DDE, is an estrogen-like substance and is still present in the environment.

Chlorine and hormone residues in meats and dairy products can also have estrogenic effects.

In men, the estrogenic environment may result in declining quality of s***m or fertility rates.

In women, it may lead to an epidemic of female diseases, all traceable to excess estrogen/deficient progesterone.

In industrialized countries such as the United States, diets rich in animal fats, sugar, refined starches, and processed foods can lead to estrogen levels in women twice that of women of third-world countries.

We are constantly exposed to xenobiotics (petrochemicals), xenohormone-laden meats and dairy products, forms of pollution, and prescriptions for synthetic hormones (such as the 'The Pill' and Premarin).

It isn't too surprising that estrogen dominance has become an epidemic in industrialized countries. Over exposure to these potentially dangerous substances has significant consequences, one of which is passing on reproductive abnormalities to offspring. Estrogen "deficiency" that is quite often used as an explanation of menopausal symptoms or health problems is not supported by sound research. When a woman's menstrual cycle is functioning normally, estrogen is the dominant hormone for the first two weeks and is balanced by progesterone, which is the dominant hormone for the latter two weeks.

After menopause, estrogen is still present and continues to be manufactured in fat cells. Most menopausal women have too little estrogen to support pregnancy, but sufficient amounts for other normal body functions. Few women are truly deficient in estrogen; most become progesterone deficient.

If estrogen becomes the dominant hormone and progesterone is deficient, excess estrogen becomes toxic to the body. Progesterone has a balancing effect on estrogen.

Supplemental estrogen, even in the slightest amounts, in a woman who doesn't need it, or who has no progesterone to balance it, can lead to many serious side effects.

When a woman complains of even the slightest menopausal type symptoms, conventional medical doctors will recommend a prescription of estrogen.

It is irresponsible and dangerous for doctors to be routinely prescribing estrogen for any type of pre-menopausal or menopausal symptom, and this practice can have tragic consequences.

The Fat Hormone: How Effective are You at Burning Belly Fat?
Ronald Grisanti D.C., D.A.B.C.O., D.A.C.B.N., M.S.

Leptin, a recently discovered hormone, regulates body weight by suppressing food intake and/or increasing energy expenditure.

Leptin is a very powerful and influential hormone produced by fat cells.

Science has discovered that leptin is the most powerful metabolic regulator that tells your brain whether you should be hungry, eat and make more fat.

Basically, leptin is the way that your fat stores speak to your brain to let your brain know how much energy is available and, very importantly, what to do with it.

In a perfect world, as you gain weight, you secrete more leptin from your fat cells. This in turn tells your brain you have enough stored fat so it reduces your appetite sending messages to help you burn fat.

But there is a problem!

Unfortunately many people have something called "leptin resistance". This means that no matter how much leptin you create from your fat cells, the brain doesn't see it. This leads to a cascade of your brain thinking you are starving ======> you burn less calories ====>your appetite goes into overdrive and finally every bit of food you eat gets stored on your belly!

Until you address leptin resistance, you're not going to lose weight!

Optimal Leptin Levels

Your goal is to keep your leptins below 12, however, not too low. Researchers have discovered that leptins too far to the low side has been associated with dementia or Alzheimer's.

A leptin above 12 is not considered healthy.

Leptin levels can now be measured with a simple blood test. Levels above 12 are linked to weight gain, accelerated aging, increased risk of infertility, diabetes and heart attack. In addition, high leptin levels are associated with belly fat and numerous cancers

Leptin rises if you don't sleep well, and if you have any kind of perceived stress.

Thyroid Connection

If you are having difficulty losing weight, I recommend you get your leptin checked. Remember you want it under 12. From a thyroid perspective, if your leptin is above 12 you will commonly see low T3 (the most metabolically active thyroid hormone) and elevated reverse T3. This is not good for those trying to lose weight. The thyroid medication Synthroid (Levothyroxine) is aT4 medication and should be used with some level of caution when high leptin levels are seen. The take away from this thyroid connection is the fact that reverse T3 means T4 is not being effectively converted into the metabolic workhorse hormone, T3.

The Solution:

You become leptin resistant by eating the typical American diet full of sugar, refined grains, and processed foods. The solution is to eat a diet that emphasizes good fats and avoids blood sugar spikes. Basically a diet that emphasize healthy fats, lean meats and vegetables, and restricts sugar and grains.

A Dangerous Food Additive to Avoid
Ronald Grisanti D.C., D.A.B.C.O., D.A.C.B.N., M.S.
Read the labels on the foods you buy.

Watch out for the ingredient carrageenan.

Carrageenan is considered a harmless food additive by the US government.

Unfortunately medical research has proven otherwise.

Carrageenan is known as Irish Moss and is actually a seaweed.

Most people would assume that this food additive would be nutritious considering it is a sea vegetable. On a positive note this sea vegetable is high in iodine, sulfur, trace minerals and vitamins.

But it is important to know that the bad far outweighs the good when it comes to the consumption of carrageenan.

In over 40 studies, carrageenan was found to create ulcers and cancers in animals. It easily triggers inflammatory disease in the human colon as well. And many researchers believe that it promotes not only irritable bowel but breast cancers and more.

It changes detoxification in sulfur pathways (needed for hormones, toxins, etc.,), and may even be responsible for DVT (deep vein thromboses or blood clots in the lower legs).

Chemists have discovered that carrageenan suppresses gamma interferon, a cytokine crucial for tumor and infectious control (like hepatitis), as well as control of inflammation and autoimmune disease, arthritis, and more.

Finally carrageenan has been found to be part of the cause of the epidemic of diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and more.

The average intake of carrageenan for most individuals is 100 mg a day.

Where do you find carrageenan?

It prevents separation in foods containing milk or chocolate, and improves the texture of not only foods, but cosmetics and even toothpastes, room deodorizers and pesticides.

It's commonly found in cottage cheese and ice cream to infant formulas, dietetic beverages and low-fat meats and yogurts. For decades it was used as a thickener in puddings.

So the take-away is read the labels on the foods and products you consume and stay clear of anything that has carrageenan listed.
