Pekin Dragons JFL
PYFL is here to develop youth athletes into community leaders using football and cheer as tools for growth. Pekin JFL is a youth football organization.
Our goal is to provide a safe, fun and educational environment for the young athletes of Pekin to grow as football players. We start with the basics and work up from there. No experience is required to participate in any of our divisions. From our in house Flag program to our travel and tournament 14U teams we encourage any young athlete to give football a try. At the heart of our organization is
Football, football, football! 🏈🏈🏈

We weren't sure what to say, how to say it or when. However, we need to give recognition where due.
The following took place during our 1:45pm 10U game between Pekin 10U Black and Canton:
Late in the 4th quarter after an incredible back and forth game with about 20-30 seconds left on the clock, a Pekin player took a hit and went down. Simultaneously another Pekin player was injured as well. After some evaluation it became immediately clear that we had one player concussed, who was also complaining of neck pain.
As we continued to evaluate, the decision was quickly made to call for EMT/Ambulance services as a precaution.
In the passing minutes the minds of everyone on the Pekin sideline and in the crowd shifted. No longer were we concerned with winning the game, we just wanted to make sure our athlete, teammate, friend and child was okay.
The discussion began once the athlete was stabilized and emergency services were en route as to what to do with the time remaining in the game.
Both teams understood the seriousness of the situation and we mutually agreed to end the game, calling for the scoreboard to be shut off.
In that moment the game no longer mattered, it didn't make sense to continue playing while a child lay there awaiting medical attention. Canton could have asked for the game to be continued, they had possession with a 5 point deficit in the redzone, they had a chance to win. Neither team had the season they had hoped for and a win on this day would have meant alot.
However, out of respect and sportsmanship they elected to allow the contest to end. In that moment they ensured we could all focus on the young man who was injured.
The update came in and he is doing okay and no spine or neck injuries were incurred. He did sustain a concussion, but the doctors did not classify it as serious after further testing. We are truly thankful that this was not more serious. Our thoughts are with the young athlete hoping for a speedy recovery.
Our thanks go out to the Canton coaches and players for a hard fought game and the class shown by them to recognize, that in the moment, there was something more important to be dealt with than the result of the game.
We'd also like to thank the first responders, the onsite medical professionals who came onto the field to lend a hand and to everyone who had the young athlete in their thoughts and prayers as we awaited the news that he would be okay.
Congrats to 8U Black and 9U on their first round playoff wins! Best of luck to all teams playing today and tomorrow!

Please be mindful and respectful of our neighbors on and around Koch St. near the complex.
We've been made aware that a child was hit by a car driven by someone who was possibly spectating one of our games. Luckily it sounds like there weren't any serious injuries.
Regardless of who the driver was or why they were in the area, it's a great reminder to everyone that there are people and children who live in the area around our fields. Please keep them in mind when coming to and from games as well as when looking for parking.
Home games for 12U and 14U on the slate for today!
12U will play at 1pm and 14U at 3pm.
