Is running too slow causing your iliotibial band pain? πββοΈ
The iliotibial band is a band of connective tissue running from the hip to the knee. When it becomes irritated, it causes pain on the outside of the knee.
One risk factor for iliotibial band syndrome is a slower running speed.
The reason is that while running slowly, the contact time with the ground is increased, leading to more compression of the iliotibial band.
Besides evaluating your biomechanics, changing your running gait can be beneficial in treating iliotibial band syndrome. Check out this infographic for more information! β
