*A Guardian is a trained companion who travels with one of our honored veterans for the day to Washington DC. While veterans fly at no cost, a guardian is asked to remit a $400 fee which covers round trip airfare, meals, bus transportation in the District, hat/shirt, and a whole lot of great memories. You must be in good physical health, between the ages of 18-72, and available to attend a 3-hour pre-flight safety training course - one of two options (May 18/AM or May 22/PM) unless you have trained as a guardian within the last 12 months. 🇺🇸✈️🇺🇸✈️
“Children and young people in this country are experiencing an unprecedented mental health crisis; there has been a continued rise in the number diagnosed with anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. An estimated one in five youth has a diagnosable mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder – yet many do not receive the help they need. And these mental health challenges can significantly impact their ability to learn and develop.”

Mental Health Awareness Month is observed annually in May, dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and promoting overall mental well-being. Throughout the month, various activities, events, and campaigns are organized by mental health organizations, advocates, and communities to educate the public, provide support, and encourage open conversations about mental health.
The primary goals of Mental Health Awareness Month are:
1. Raise Awareness: Shed light on the prevalence of mental health conditions, their impact on individuals and society, and the importance of prioritizing mental well-being.
2. Promote Understanding. Educate people about different mental health disorders, their symptoms, and available treatments to foster empathy and reduce stigma.
3. Encourage Support. Provide resources, support networks, and guidance to individuals struggling with mental health issues and their loved ones.
4. Advocate for Change. Advocate for policies, programs, and services that promote mental health, improve access to mental health care, and ensure equity in mental health treatment.
5. Empower Action. Empower individuals to take proactive steps to prioritize their mental health, seek help when needed, and support others in their mental health journey.
Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a platform to address the stigma surrounding mental health, promote understanding and empathy, and advocate for a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone’s mental well-being. It’s an opportunity for communities to come together, share resources, and work towards creating a society where mental health is valued, understood, and prioritized.

It’s common for children to experience moments of sadness, exhibit grouchy behavior, or be in a bad mood occasionally. However, if these feelings persist for weeks or longer, alongside other changes in behavior, it could indicate depression.
Therapy can be beneficial for children struggling with sadness or depression, and parents can also play a crucial role. Seeking the appropriate care early can prevent the situation from worsening and facilitate the child’s recovery.
If your child is experiencing prolonged sadness, it’s essential to discuss it with their doctor.
Happy Cinco De Mayo! 🎉 Before you celebrate, please plan ahead! Arrange for a designated driver or car service if you’ll be drinking. Stay in a group. Don’t leave your drink or belongings unattended. Let your friends & family know your party plans in advance.
Be safe & enjoy!
