The next event for our 250th Anniversary Celebration will be a tour of the Old Methodist Cemetery on Saturday, June 1st at 12pm. The tour will be lead by Jack Davis, an esteemed local historian and long time member of Pennington United Methodist Church. Join us for a day of history, remembrance, and faith as we make the trek out to the final resting place of the first Methodists of Pennington!

For our final social media spotlight leading up to our 250th Anniversary Celebration Organ Recital and Hymnfest, we will be sharing information on composers, F***y Crosby and Charles Albert Tindley.
F***y Crosby, was a blind lyricist and composer integral to the writing of many beloved hymns and gospel tunes. Some of her works include “Blessed Assurance”, “To Thine Be The Glory”, and about 8000 other hymns.
Charles Albert Tindley was another prolific gospel hymn writer and an early 20th-century American Methodist minister. His song, “I'll Overcome Someday”, is credited as the basis for the Civil Rights anthem, “We Shall Overcome”.

Our next spotlight leading up to our 250th anniversary Celebration Organ Recital and Hymn Fest will be about Methodist composer-extraordinaire, Charles Wesley.
Charles Wesley was a leader of the 18th-century Methodist movement and a prolific author of hymns, Some of his works include “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “Christ the Lord is Risen Today”, “And Can It Be”, “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”, “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”, and “Oh For A Thousand Tongues to Sing” among 6000-10,000 others.

Leading up to our second event in our 250th anniversary celebration, we will be posting some fun info correlating to our Organ Recital and Hymn Fest! Today, we will be showcasing the American Guild of Organists Central New Jersey Chapter, who will be performing this event on Sunday!
THE AMERICAN GUILD OF ORGANISTS (AGO) is a national professional association serving the organ and choral music fields. The Guild serves approximately 12,000 members in more than 275 chapters throughout the United States and abroad. Founded in 1896 as both an educational and service organization, the Guild seeks to set and maintain high musical standards and to promote understanding and appreciation of all aspects of organ and choral music. www.AGOhq.org
Sandwiched between powerhouse chapters of Philadelphia and New York City, the Central New Jersey Chapter of the AGO is one of seven NJ Chapters. Our chapter was formed in 1919! With a total of 60 members, the chapter offers an average of six events each year: some for chapter members and some for the public. We are incredibly excited to introduce our next event for our 250th Anniversary Celebration! ALL ARE INVITED to the Pennington United Methodist Church Hymn Sing & Organ Recital on Sunday, April 21st at 3pm.
Joined by organists from the esteemed American Guild of Organists (AGO), Central New Jersey Chapter, the church will recognize its spiritual heritage of 250 years of praise and service through music. The organists will play organ settings of hymns and other works related to the Methodist hymnal, highlighting hymn writers such as Charles Wesley and Charles Albert Tindley.
The church invites you to the concert and hymn sing with a reception afterwards to meet the musicians as well as enjoy food and fellowship. A “free will offering” for the church’s mission programs will be taken at the door. Please make sure to RSVP on Eventbrite so we have an accurate headcount of attendees. Methodists celebrate 250 years in Pennington It’s the 250-year anniversary not of the church building, but of a Methodist presence in Pennington
As many of you know, 2024 marks the 250th anniversary of our Methodist faith in Pennington. And we are going to celebrate all year long! Banners will fly, social media will advertise, there will be robust music and singing and lots of food. All events are free of charge and open to everyone. Our members, past and present, will receive invitations in the mail with the list of events. The community is invited to share our joy!
The year opens with a Commemorative Worship Service which will be held Sunday, January 28, at 3 p.m. We invite all former pastors, former members, our friends and neighbors to a great celebration with our UMC Bishop and District Superintendent. There will be music, singing, history and a rededication of our faith and missions. A grand reception will be held afterwards in Morrell Hall. Everyone is welcome!
