Leah here, Hey 168 fam if I pull up on the 200+ that wished me well yesterday on FB or IG you are my heart my friends, I have seen you at your best as well as your worst times. Hard reality we been scary slow if you haven’t seen me in a minute I been trying my best to keep building up on our community relationships!

I was speaking to an old friend because of my bday, the shop has been an outlet to so many people. I have a folder of the greatest humans who used us as an outlet and did not make it out! Drugs, su***de, cancer, loss of child the list goes on, it’s a tough job as the mom of the shop! My guys are great to respect each and everyone and the situations we are presented with! That’s why we keep it a small circle and don’t need 8 artists popping up from the front desk to take your hard earned money!

Back to if u haven’t seen me we are trying catching foxes with mange, getting a lot of bee stings to save a cat, making sure raccoons are ok… and my greatest gift past few months is to be able to spread my knowledge to the next generation at summer camp! Both art my portraits and animals!

We have a great crew and community who supports us! But it sucks if it didn’t u would see my face behind the front desk! Having that said I appreciate you all we all have our s**t it’s a tough world but know that every single fu***ng person that I have touched to take time out their day is a real person! And we were all meant to be at some point in time!

If you're reading this, you most likely know my incredible wife, Leah T. Fichter. Some might know her as the boss of the shop, others as the queen of animal rescue, and some even as the person who lovingly shooed a spider out of the house instead of squashing it. My boys know her as the amazing stepmom who would move mountains to make them feel at home, even if they were determined to camp on the other side.
I know her as the most caring, passionate, and sometimes intense woman alive—not as a flaw, but as a superpower. She has a heart so big, it’s like she’s the superhero version of Florence Nightingale, who was also born on the 12th of August (well, not really, but let’s pretend for a second). Leah would literally give you the shirt off her back to make your life better, though sometimes I do have to remind her that I bought that shirt! But hey, that’s just Leah, and how could anyone ever complain?
Today, the 12th of August, is special because it’s her day—even if she pretends not to love birthdays (but we all know she secretly does). She might not love getting older, but that’s okay—because somehow, she’s managed to master the art of reverse aging! “Seriously, I’m convinced she’s got a secret fountain of youth hidden somewhere." My love for her grows even stronger. After 15 years together, I’m still falling for her every single minute.
Happy Birthday, Leah! Here’s to another year of being you—the woman who makes every day brighter and every moment sweeter (and sometimes funnier, even if it’s at my expense).

NJ Aid for Animals Support Local… follow the page! 100% transparent, times are tough for all nonprofits as everyone! However share or tag someone who can help, support, or donate!

This the sad reality with having inflation, we the people suffer -> animals suffer more! There has been more dumped pets, surrenders or folks that can not maintain their lifestyle, let alone afford veterinary care or maintenance! FACTS

$4,000 Double the Impact: Donate to Our Matching Fund for independent trappers to TNR Feral Cats!

We’re thrilled to offer a special opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of feral cats. For every dollar you contribute, it will be matched up to $2,000. This means that if we raise $2,000, we will have $4,000 to support 88 feral cats to be TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return)

This matching fund is a crucial initiative to aid independent trappers who cover their own costs for TNR efforts. Here’s why your support is vital:

Did You Know?
• The highest intake of feral cats euthanized at Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center comes from Camden City and Winslow Township.
• Independent trappers not only invest in traps and cover their own time, transportation, and recovery costs, but they also pay out-of-pocket for any additional medical needs, like dental care or injury treatment.

A Proven Model:
Last fall, a donor asked NJ Aid for Animals how to best utilize a generous $10,000 bequest with the goal of making a significant difference in Camden City and Winslow Township. The donor wanted the funds to be used specifically for spaying and neutering feral cats at a high-volume, cat-focused clinic where appointments were readily available.

Although our local shelter has a grant for free TNR, appointments are almost impossible to get and large numbers of appointments are vital when trapping at a large colony so as not to leave any behind.

We found a partner clinic and gave them $10,000 with restrictions on the trappers allowed to make appointments on their own schedule and to “spend down” the funds. In less than a year, the trappers have used these funds to TNR 250 feral cats, preventing them from ending up in the shelter. If kittens or friendly cats were found, they were placed with local cat nonprofits. The best part?
The rescues received fully vetted cats without incurring spay or neuter costs!

A Win-Win:
•Trappers didn’t have to cover the costs of their vital work
•Shelters: Fewer feral cats needed to be held and euthanized
•Municipalities: Savings on shelter costs ($299 per cat).
•Cat Rescues: They could focus on fostering and adoption without the added expense of spaying/neutering.
*MORE FERAL CATS LIVES WERE SAVED!

With the initial funds now depleted, trappers are once again facing the challenge of covering these expenses on their own. Given the current economic climate, continuing this work is increasingly difficult.

Your donation can help! If we raise $2,000, it will be matched, providing a total of $4,000 to fix approximately 88 cats.
