The Doula Paige
Hello, I'm Paige and I provide pregnancy, labor and postpartum doula support in Pensacola, FL
“Delivering by cesarean section doesn’t make any woman less of a mother, whether it was planned or unplanned. We’re all raising our children every day, refusing to be defined by the moment our babies were born.” 💖
I hope everyone has a fun and safe Independence Day! 🎆🇺🇸
Strong as a Mother… ! 💪🏾☺️ There are so many benefits to using a traditional rebozo or labor scarf throughout the birth process. It’s the number one tool I use in my bag! This is the Tug-of-War technique. Using a sheet, towel or rebozo, either tied to a birth bar or having a partner hold on to one side, can help the mother push more efficiently by giving her more power.
There is nothing but pure LOVE in these photos as Big Sis helps mom through labor. 💖

Looking back at my time here in Hawaii gives me so many emotions. Thank you to this beautiful island and it’s people. I’ve learned so much and I’ve been able to help so many. Saying goodbye today is hard, but I’m ready to start fresh in Florida. See ya in Pensacola! ☀️ Aloha Hawaii
Today is IVF Day, AND it’s my birthday 🥳 One year ago today I was 2 days postpartum from giving birth to my Belly Bud, a baby I carried for another family. I went through 2 rounds of IVF as a surrogate so that a family could be complete 💞 IVF taught me so much. It does not guarantee a baby, even for someone as healthy as I am with no fertility complications. It opened my eyes what 1 in 8 women go through to try to start or expand their family. Sending positive vibes to anyone out there who is currently struggling with infertility ✨💖

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there! 💙
Utilizing the Tug-of-War method during pushing can help give more power to your pushes. This can be done with either a bed sheet or rebozo! *t
Happy International Homebirth Day 💕
✨Paced-Bottle-Feeding✨
I love this method of paced bottle feeding. This position is easier for both mom and baby rather than holding baby upright, and, this position better mimics how baby would breastfeed making it easier to go between breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Baby also has more control laying on their side so they can easily take breaks and milk doesn’t pool into their mouth.
You can see in this video(in comments) how baby’s tongue doesn’t break suction, giving her a good latch onto the bottle, reducing the amount of air she’s taking in.
If your baby is fussy or seems uncomfortable at the bottle, or maybe your baby is having a hard time going from breast to bottle, give this method of bottle feeding a try!! 🤗👩🏼🍼🍼
Born at Home 💙
Breastfeeding is the most natural, unnatural thing you can do. It’s something that is learned and most new moms struggle with in the beginning. Sometimes even animals need help! Which goes to prove that you and your baby will not automatically know how to breastfeed, even as a second time mom, third time mom…etc. Every breastfeeding journey will be so different because every baby is different and unique in their own way. Breastfeeding takes a lot of patience but with a lot of practice and support, you can have a successful journey with your little one. I Am so happy to have helped several mommas here on Oahu overcome many breastfeeding challenges 💕

Happy World Doula Week! 🤗💞
March 1st, my best friend had the most amazing water birth and I got to be with her via Factime for the second time! Covid prevented me from being there the first time and then over 3000 miles separated us this time. She was freaking AMAZING! 💖 Welcome to the world Amelia Rose 🌹

Happy International Women’s Day! 💕🤰🏼
Traditional midwifery may become illegal in Hawaii after June 30, 2023 if HB955 does not pass. This removes someone's right to choose who and where they want to birth with. Forcing them into the care of a provider they do not want to be with. This also removes adequate access to care for folks who live nowhere near hospitals and depend on their local traditional midwives for care. This is also a cultural issue when you make traditional midwifery illegal!
There are many traditional midwives who carry hundreds and thousands of years of knowledge passed down from generations and are able to offer and have been offering for years, safe care within their communities but they will soon become a things of the past of HB955 does not pass. The majority of midwives in Hawaii are traditional midwives.
This will single handedly almost completely remove homebirth from the state. People should always have the freedom to choose.
Traditional midwifery is the root of all midwifery.

Do you know about the Comb Trick to help manage labor pains?
The trick is to hold the comb so that the back of it is across your fingers and the bristles are pressing into your palm of your hands, “When gripped in your hands, a comb can help hit acupuncture points in your hands. It also plays into the gate control pain theory,”
The Gate Theory of Pain proposes that pain is a function of the balance between information traveling into the spinal cord through different nerve fibers, but the brain can only focus on a certain amount of stimulation at once. So, stimulating additional nerve fibers when you’re in pain could lessen the brain’s ability to interpret pain. It’s one of many scientific theories about how the body interprets and processes pain. Under the umbrella of the Gate Theory, an activity like squeezing a comb could potentially “distract” your brain, thereby lessening other sensations. “Because the nerve endings are closer on your hands, they reach your brain faster, helping your body forget about the contractions”.
Welcome Baby Girl! 💖 Little Miss wanted to join the party a few weeks early. 2nd time mom advocated for herself and trusted her body when her waters broke at 36+6 weeks and labor had not started yet. Inducing labor was highly recommended by her care team but with proper education before hand, she was able to make the best decision and opted to go back home and we got labor started naturally! From the time labor contractions started to baby being born was just under 2 hours!
From Postpartum Support International - The symptoms of perinatal psychosis include delusions or strange beliefs, hallucinations, feeling very irritated, hyperactivity & decreased need for sleep, paranoia & suspiciousness, and rapid mood swings.
The facts about perinatal psychosis are that while it is less common than other perinatal mental health disorders (affecting 1-2 women per 1000 births), it is always an emergency situation. The onset is usually sudden, within 2-3 weeks postpartum, and treatment options almost always include hospitalization, medication, and therapy.
You are not alone, you are not to blame, and with help, you will be well 💙
