Dear Class of 2024,

Thank you for inviting us here today to speak at your commencement. It was quite a surprise. We don't usually get invited to celebrations. At least not until someone rips their shirt off and asks the age-old question; “You wanna take this outside?” Then we get invited. Quickly.

We’ll keep this brief because your Mom made reservations at Olive Garden. You will grow more, learn more, and figure out more in the next four years than any other time in your life. Excluding those first four years where you learned to walk and talk and not stick things into wall sockets.

Your pals at the PPD have a unique perspective on life choices, as we see the logical outcomes of those on a daily, if not hourly, basis. Allow us to offer some advice:
▪️ Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to go away to school right away. The English Comp class at FSU is the same English Comp class at PSC. Just much cheaper.
▪️ On that note, don’t be so quick to go into debt for school, a car, or a ring.
▪️ There are many perfectly happy millionaires who get their hands dirty daily because many broke folks won’t.
▪️ There are literally a million careers out there. Pick one that does not have “influencer” in the title.
▪️ For every pic of you holding a red Solo cup on social media, it will cost you $10K in annual income and 10 pounds later in life.
▪️ Wear sunscreen.

So go out into the world and make your mark on it. But first, hang your tassel from your rearview mirror. But only until August.

And for all those attending graduation events (or wanting to avoid them) they are scheduled back to back to back at the Bay Center. While you are trying to get in, others will be trying to get out. With some advanced coordination and the help of a dozen wedding planners named Kourtneigh, Ahmanda, and Felica it'll all work out.
