WSRE has announced the artists for the 15th season of StudioAmped! Six concerts will be presented in the Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio at Pensacola State College in October, and the shows will premiere on WSRE PBS in the spring. Admission is free.
From the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival, Lauren Mascitti, Jim McCormick and CJ Solar will kick off the concert series on Fri 10/4. The series will continue with Bangarang Peter on Tues 10/8; Civilized Natives on Thurs 10/10; Johnny Hayes & The Alabama Fire on Mon 10/14; Jordan Chase on 10/16; and Justin Jeansonne on Fri 10/18. The WSRE-TV Foundation Board of Directors held its 2024-25 Annual Meeting at the Hilton Pensacola Beach on Friday, celebrating WSRE’s role as Northwest Florida’s PBS television station, welcoming new board members, congratulating new officers, and resolving to support the station’s advancement today and for the future. The chair’s gavel passed from Jarrod Dawson to this year’s Board Chair, Dr. Brent Videau.

‘Hitting kids should never be allowed’: Illinois bans corporal punishment in all schools
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — This school year, Illinois will become just the fifth state in the nation to prohibit corporal punishment in all schools.
Legislation that Gov. JB Pritzker signed into law this month bans physical punishment in private schools while reiterating a prohibition on the practice in public schools implemented 30 years ago.
