SCARECROW
You may have seen this beautiful piece painted, but you haven't seen the greenware on the shelf. We only pour this beast of a mold for our Fashenhues class. If you want one, now is the time to join our class.

We recommend a sack lunch for all workshops.

A Tip or Two

If you are going to antique a piece, do not use a sponge and water to clean your greenware - as the marks will show through when the color is applied. Sponging tends to seal the pores of the greenware which makes the ware resist the antique. If there are pin holes, you can rub the surface with a grit sponge before proceeding.

Ceramics is not an inexpensive hobby. Make sure that your teacher is CERTIFIED in the products that they teach and sell, and that they will REPLACE at no charge to you if your item should it not turn out properly under their tutelage and care.

Saturday July 13th at 10:00 am

$45 includes bisque box that has been glazed inside, glass, grout, supplies and instruction with Jean Kidwell. You will be able to pick your own colors for this pattern and after you can customize the color of the box.

A Tip or Two

Stroke and Coats can go on greenware or bisque, can be fired from 06 to 6.
To use stroke and coat on low-fire greenware, paint three coats for solid coverage. Be sure to leave some part of the greenware exposed to be able to release gasses. For example, you can paint the inside and outside of a vase, but leave the base exposed. You can fire this to 04 for high shine without a clear glaze.
When painting on bisque, paint on 3 coats for solid coverage, let dry and cover with a coat of clear glaze. Fire to 06.

When I was 17, I did a piece in underglazes and real gold. I was so specific to what I wanted, even the music notes are correct for the song. Didn't realize how "difficult" of a project that was for a youngster working in all greenware on a 24"plate, while carving and painting layer after layer, but had a wonderful certified instructor who helped me achieve the look I wanted. I took best of show. I was certified several months later.

THROWBACK - This isnt my first rodeo - Ive been doing ceramics for over 33 years. People always ask me about my previous shop. I thought I'd share some pictures of how we used to get our slip pumped right into our tanks, the old production area, and some of our old studio.whats missing from this photo is our main firing room which consisted of 5 kilns, and our large classroom area. I thought it'd be fun to share.
