Peoria Zoo

Last month, giraffes Emy and Vivian underwent routine medical care similar to a human's annual checkup at the doctor. We're happy to say that both recovered beautifully and were up within a few hours. 🦒

A few of the many experts involved include Farriers (hoof care), Dental Teams, and Anesthesiologists from many areas around the country! To put things into perspective, think about the number of doctors who would be in the room if you got all of your annual medical, dental, and vision exams done at the same time. Now picture how many people that would take if you were 14 feet tall! 😮

We could not be more grateful for the support from the Brookfield Zoo Chicago and every other expert who made sure our giraffes were safe and healthy throughout the procedure process. Thank you!!! 🦒❤️

A roaring "thank you" to the Forestry crews who trimmed up the trees in the Africa exhibit last Wednesday, August 7th! 🦁

The Forestry crews play an essential role in keeping the Peoria Zoo exhibits in tip-top shape for both the animals and visitors to enjoy. The Africa exhibit is open daily from 10am-5pm, our animals would love to see your smiling faces! 🦓🐢🐍🦒

Our is taking a patriotic theme in honor of our nation's birthday! The Zoo is open today from 10am-5pm, with last admission at 4:30pm.

The Peoria Zoo was home to Bald Eagles from 1975 to 1990. Two Bald eagles were rescued and transferred to the Zoo because they had sustained injuries in the wild. While at the zoo, the pair of eagles produced chicks and those chicks along with the rehabilitated parents were successfully reintroduced to the wild in the 1980's.
