We were recently notified that one of our jar candles broke while being burned. This is the first time I have had this happen in 19 years that I am aware of. Looking at the jar (first pic), it does look like a large part on the side is black and that usually means that the flame was too high and that can cause the jar to get too hot. When this happens, please blow the wick out and trim it down. We never want the flame too high and we like the wick to be trimmed to about a quarter inch, as per our warning labels on the bottom.

Also, when you go to light your candle, if the top of the wick looks like a mushroom, please trim it off. That can also cause the flame to get too high and burn too hot. Mushrooming is a natural part of the wick burning process, but should be trimmed off before lighting each time.

I know this is a recurring issue with Bath & Body Works candles and someone also posted that Aldi candles do this as well. Personally, I believe it is more from letting candles burn too long without trimming wicks down.

We recycle many of our jars and people return them black. I always ask if they trim the wicks and they say no, they just let them burn all day long. I understand it is easy to forget but please, please - for optimal candle burning safety, please trim the wicks and burn no longer than 4 hours at a time.

The benefits to that is when you keep the wick trimmed down, you get a longer candle life!
So please, please, please … follow all candle burning instructions. We love you all and want everyone to be safe, happy and have a great smelling house!
