Last day! And we brought 🍩!!
Hey Fankind, Brian’s Comics wouldn’t be what it is without the help of our awesome employees. We’ve had the best employees over the years: Brandi was the first way back at the start. There was Dimitri, who always was happy to chat with everyone. Gabriel helped out all the way until the very end and has a comic book knowledge that rivals Brian. Bret first came in early on and ended up working for us for a while and was also our videographer for both Eisner Award videos. Aidan pretty much grew up in the shop and co-hosted our podcast. He and his friends made a video commercial for us in the first month we were open! And of course, there is Megan, who saw us through the pandemic and continues to run an awesome book club.
And a HUGE shout out to all the volunteers who have helped at Free Comic Book Day! You all made each year better and better. We literally could not have done it without you. Please give a round of applause to all the workers of Brian’s Comics. Thank you one and all!!!
It’s the grand finale weekend. Everything left is 75% off. Come on down!!
Hey Fankind, today we would like to acknowledge all the creators that have been involved with Brian’s Comics over the past decade. Let’s start with our logo artists. The first logo was done by Tom Hodges, who created our two characters Blue Screen and Interceptor. Our logo was then redesigned by Rus Wooton into what you see today. That logo was even animated by Gio Benedetti and used for our videos, with the great theme song by Team Powellstein.
You’ve probably seen all the awesome art in the shop from different artists. Most notably is the Cantina mural by Alex Whitehurst. Maia Kobabe had a book signing for the launch of Gender Q***r. We celebrated Image Comics Day with Nick Dragotta, Justin Greenwood and Ramon Villalobos. Lex Fajardo came and signed your copies of Kid Beowulf. Michael Atiyeh and Svetlana Chmakova signed their issues for Free Comic Book Day. Other creators we had in were Christopher Sebela, Brian Schirmer, J.W. Rinzler, Sean Fahey and Joe Pruett. We loved having events and signings in the shop and will miss the community it fostered. Thank you to all the creators who helped to support us over the years
Hey Fankind, today in our retrospective we want to salute the dogs of Brian’s Comics! Everyone knows Sona, since she is at the shop a lot, but we also wanted to acknowledge the dogs of the past. Kirby was the original shop dog. If it wasn’t for the shop, we never would have gotten him. A family wandered in with his sister and they told us about there being one more puppy available for adoption! Kirby, of course is named after Jack Kirby, and he spent some of his puppy years hanging with Brian at the shop. He was even a big part of our celebration of being nominated to enter the Eisner Awards! Our other dog, Granger, wasn’t at the shop as much. She didn’t like the noise from upstairs all that much. But she did come in every once in a while. Plus, we had many “guest stars” over the years who visited the shop. We even had an adoption event with the animal shelter where the dogs all had their own capes! So here’s to the four legged friends of Brian’s Comics!
Happy Wednesday Fankind! Since Wednesday is such an important comic book day, I want to take a moment to salute all of YOU, the customers and subscribers of Brian’s Comics. You have been here since the start and showed up faithfully every new comic book day. Some of you have been coming in so long that you have the titles you subscribed to written on a divider! (Brian learned very quickly that this was not sustainable)
From Jordan (our very first customers), the Trader Joes guys who always said “hi” when I came into your store, the kids who we watched grow up over the years and those who moved away and still kept in touch: thank you one and all. You are what made this so fulfilling. We wouldn’t have been able to make it 10 years without you.
As we wind down in the final days of Brian’s Comics we are reflection on some highlights. Today we take a look back at some of the events in the community we took part in. There is of course LumaCon, which is the best little con ever! There was also Toy Con in Santa Rosa which is another favorite. There was the annual Butter and Egg Days parade, which we had the best marching group ever! We also did an annual talk at local kids summer camp, participated in Where’s Waldo and handed out free comics on Halloween!
A couple of other highlights were getting to know Petaluma Batman…and Joker of course. It even landed Brian an interview in the documentary Legends of the Knight!!
Brian also had the honor of doing a talk about Star Wars comic books during a special tour at Rancho Obi-Wan. There were lots of great community memories we had with Brian’s Comics and will share more in the coming days. Thanks for being part of ALL Fankind!
Come on down and take advantage of even lower savings! 75% off all back issues. Everything else in the store is 50% off. Don’t let the weather get you down. See you at 11 am.
