New faces, new semester 🥳 We loved meeting incoming students this week at Jump Start. They got to pick up their books, get their IDs, find their classes and get a taste of campus life just time time for classes to start on August 19!
And just like that, fall semester is right around the corner!
Since Kathi Moses was a little girl, she loved styling hair, learning new techniques and trying different looks. Her hope was to one day become a hairstylist with her own salon. But like many returning adult students, life took an unconventional path.
Nontraditional students are WCTC students: Kathi Moses '22, Cosmetology At Waukesha County Technical College, more than 40 percent of students are nontraditional, meaning they are older than age 25. Their road to education may have been postponed or interrupted for any number of reasons, among them full-time work, caregiving responsibilities or a change in career. Class...
Did you know that Oconomowoc High School students have the option to sign up for the Dual Enrollment Academy at WCTC - Waukesha County Technical College? 🎓 Our students explore programs such as Automation, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education Preschool, Firefighter/EMT, IT Systems and Welding/Fabrication.
In WCTC’s Dual Enrollment Academy, this program helps ease the transition from high school to post-secondary education, giving insight into college academics and lets students explore high-demand fields. After successfully completing the program, students earn a WCTC certificate or diploma along with high school credits. 👏📜Congratulations Raccoons!!

Meet Luis Delgadillo, Automotive Maintenance Technician student and intern at Jerry's Automotive Service, LLC. He’s been honing his communication skills working with service advisors and asking questions to keep learning new things. He’s also getting valuable, hands-on practice working on tires, brakes and more. 🚗
Today is ! Every year, hundreds of WCTC students get real-world experience through internships. Get to know a few of our talented student interns:
Meet Criminal Justice Studies student Kaylee Lipa, interning in the Forensics Division at the Milwaukee Police Department. Kaylee has had the privilege of visiting scenes with investigators, getting real-world experience in a wide range of settings. “Some places I have gone so far include the morgue, a hospital, a gas station and the tow lot to observe the collection of evidence or DNA with the proper steps and equipment,” she said. She’s been able to ask questions and develop relationships with investigators and supervisors, building her network and gaining insights that will guide her as she progresses in her career.

Meet Graphic Design student Ryan Dalton, who has spent his summer interning with Zachariah's Acres. This Oconomowoc nonprofit is focused on connecting children with special needs and their families with the wonders of nature.
Rachael Carlson and Carly Johnson of Zachariah’s Acres said it’s been a fun summer working alongside Ryan as he grows in his creative design process. “We have had the pleasure of hosting numerous graphic design interns over the last few years,” they said. “As a small nonprofit, the students have helped us improve our marketing materials and branding.”
Ryan is grateful for the opportunity to hone his communication and teamwork skills, with the beautiful setting as a special perk. “I like the location,” said Ryan. “It is beautiful with lots of nature and inspiration all around.”

Meet Grayson Luce, IT Computer Support Specialist student who recently completed his internship at TopLine Results Corporation. Grayson started out with only some basic knowledge he’d acquired during a single database class that was outside of his program focus. “From there, I was able to leverage on-the-job learning to become proficient in various CRM software on the technical side, as well as dabbling in sales and marketing," he said.
After his internship, Grayson was hired part-time, with an offer for full-time employment following his graduation. His words of advice: “Take every opportunity to learn while nothing is expected of you.” 👏

Meet Gabby Winter, Criminal Justice Studies student and intern with the City of Brookfield, WI Police Department. She's had the opportunity to meet many officers and see what they do every day.
"During my ride-alongs I get to ask them about their own education, training, their experience with the academy and the job, how they enjoy their department, and their goals for their own careers,” she said, appreciating their perspective as she thinks about her own long-term goals. “Every officer has been so kind and welcoming. It really has shown me what kind of department I want to be a part of when I graduate.”
