Sometime around 3:30am yesterday morning someone smashed 8 of our windows at our West Philly location. As disheartening and sad as it may seem…
I found joy and comfort from all of our neighbors coming by and showing support.
For many years I wanted our second location to be on Baltimore Ave. It probably took 6-7 years of searching & waiting to find our West Philly home. I have poured my heart & soul (and all my savings lol) into getting open. It’s a wonderful vibey shop and I’m super proud of it. West Philadelphia is an amazing vibrant, unique, super rad neighborhood that’s unlike anywhere else in the city. To say I’m proud to be here & part of this community is an understatement. I plan on growing this business, I plan on continuing to expand our hours and offerings for years to come.
Unfortunately, there will be boards up for 2-3 weeks until the new windows are in. I want to let everyone know WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS EVERYDAY 8am to 3pm. Please swing by and say hi if you can! We will be working on extending hours for Spring as soon as we can!
I would like to give special THANKS for the outpouring of concern and support we have received from our WEST PHILLY neighbors. It has truly been inspiring.
Adam
Mood board throw back. Feeling nostalgic & blessed to do what I love for such a long time. Too many cool cats, kittens & kiddos to shout out. I truly heart your guts.
for the amazing real pictures that I took to a CVS for uber-sh*tty prints…sorry homie lol!
Xoxo,
Mr. Milk
STAFF PICKS are in. 🔥🔥🔥 Which is your favorite? We get new and select rare vinyl in the rotation often thanks to and we will be showcasing staff pics and RARE vinyl right here on the IG for you vinyl headz.
No. 1: Master William Burchette - Psychic Meditation, original $115.00. One of the reasons his stuff is rare because “Sometimes his albums come with a warning that you may open up a portal to hell by listening to them.” Fun fact: Master Wilburn Burchette released seven albums in the seven years spanning 1971 through 1977, before abruptly burning and discarding everything related to his musical explorations.
No. 2: Flower Travellin’ Band - Satori, reissue $26.00. The original album was released in Japan and the U.S. in 1971. This album is heavy hitting - balancing between heavy rock, psychedelic blues and proto metal while capturing an iconic moment in time both musically and culturally.
No. 3: Azymuth - Águia Não Come Mosca, reissue $28.00. This album was released in Brazil in 1977. Tropicália that floats from mellow soul to disco-jazz-funk fusion. Everyone should listen to this record!
No. 3: New Amerykah Part Two: Return Of The Ankh - Erykah Badu, reissue $33.00. Released in 2010, Badu’s 5th studio album reads like neo-soul, with upbeat moments of satire and sarcasm. It has been compared to her earlier albums energy and feel. Our is hooked on it at the moment!
What’s better than vinyl record listening + Hot chocolate (possibly with a shot of espresso in it) on a freezing cold day? I think we have found the cure for the winter blues. We also have a basement below our cafe where you can browse, shop and listen to vinyl before you purchase. Disclaimer: this hot chocolate was hand crafted by our awesome barista She will be leaving for Italy during the month of February. So get your buns in here this month if you’d like to be graced by her presence and attention to detail when crafting her hot chocolates, lattes, and cortados y’all! Swipe for cafe cuties and mouth watering hot coco imagery.
One of the reasons I love owning a record store for over 25 yearsis the connections with people. The bond of music is infinite, just like the journey of music & life experiences. You never know where this journey takes you and connects you to. Months ago a rather cool gentleman named Marvin who loves him some jazz records stumbled upon our shop. In conversations he told us about a very cool project he is involved with….that he was buying all the physical copies of Ron Carter appears on. Many of you know that Ron Carter is one of the most famous bass players ever. He is also the most recorded jazz bassist in history. Appearing in well over 2,000 recordings. Marvin meet Ron years ago and found out he did not own any physical copies of his own material?!?! Marvin has been on a journey to make sure Ron has physical copies of albums he is on. It’s been a pleasure to know Marvin and help him on this vinyl quest. I am planning on catching him next time he plays in NY. I did get these pics of Marvin & Ron yesterday. Ron wearing a Milkcrate t-shirt (what?!?!!?). Incredibly to feel connected to Ron Carter in such a small way, honored to be part of this in any way. Thanks Marvin!
