National Golf Links of America, located in Southampton, New York, is one of the most storied and prestigious golf clubs in the world. Founded in 1911 by Charles Blair Macdonald, widely regarded as the father of American golf course architecture, the club was his visionary project to create a masterpiece inspired by the great links courses of the British Isles. Each hole at National Golf Links is modeled after classic golf holes from Scotland and England, incorporating timeless design principles that challenge golfers while showcasing the natural beauty of Long Island’s rolling terrain.
What sets National Golf Links apart is its unwavering exclusivity and historical significance. The club maintains a very private membership, composed of a tight-knit group of individuals with deep ties to the world of business, society, and finance. National’s revered reputation comes not only from its association with Macdonald’s genius but also from its limited access, creating an air of mystique. Its status as one of the founding members of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and its role in hosting the inaugural Walker Cup in 1922 further solidify its place in golf history. If you get the chance to make the trek out to the Hamptons, this is a must play!
